MoI3D for iPad

Hi Michael,

I know this is probably not in the cards, but I do want to put it out there that I would really love to have MoI3D on iPad. I would buy a new full license for it and I think it would probably sell really well since the only options on iPad currently are really expensive and not as good as MoI imho.

I'm already using my iPad with pencil for sculpting with Nomad Sculpt and it feels extremely natural, since MoI's interface is already designed to be used without keyboard shortcuts, I suspect that the UI and UX would be a natural port to iOS.

I've tried using MoI on iPad with various screen sharing tools, but it never feels responsive enough, and always obviously doesn't work when I don't have my computer on the same network.

Thanks for listening and I'll keep secretly hoping this could one day become a reality :-)

Geert

Hi Geert, sorry no I don't have any plans for an iPad version.

It's a non-starter for me because Apple tightly controls it and only allows apps from their app store to run on it.

That adds a whole lot of bureaucracy that I don't like to deal with, sorry.

Hi Geert,

Have you tried using a graphics tablet like a Wacom Cintiq or Huion connected to your Mac or PC? It's pretty nice to have a bigger screen than an iPad.

Thanks for your reply Michael,

I understand, having quite a few apps in the App Store myself, I can tell you that it's not as bad as it seems and the App Store itself does generate a significant amount of sales. Not that this should make a difference, but I do want to give that point of view since I've been publishing apps with many users on the App Store for about a decade.

Hi Peer,

I like the iPad's mobility and being able to go anywhere to be creative. Being able to get away from the computer and a desk is what's appealing to me. Using the computer, I'm very happy with my 3DConnexion SpaceMouse and regular mouse combo.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Geert

Hi Geert, there are also so many horror stories about Apple suddenly deciding that an app isn't following some particular guideline and refusing to publish updates and such.

It's just too much fiddling around. I don't want to make an app for a system like that where you have to submit it for approval, sorry.

You're right, that happens (very rarely), and it's annoying.

Though I've never had it be a showstopper nor something that actually was unreasonable.

I totally understand that you wouldn't want to deal with this though.

Thanks pafurijaz,

This is one I've not tried out yet. I'm cautious about which tools to use due to the pricing model ($100/year subscription) and possible file format fragmentation. MoI being my primary modeler with a lot of files that I need to continue to modify and maintain. I could start exporting back and forth in STP, but that seems quite a hassle.

Had Umake 3D on my iPad Pro quite a while ago. But I wouldn't recommend
it to anyone. At first it looks interesting because it allows sketching in 3D.
It's a bit like Vector graphics in 3D.

But the handling of the Tools, sorry. This made me quickly
cancel my subscription again.

For me Nomad Sculpt (no subscription) is a good one.
Mesh based, 3D app on the iPad. The only one
I have left on my iPad. Btw. you can do a few things
more with Nomad than sculpting.

Here a link to ilya Tulyakov´s youtube channel
a great Modeller which use Nomad Sculpt.

Meanwhile, there is also Sketchup on the iPad.
I think Shape3D is a pro one, but expensive.

Other than that, 3D apps that run in the browser
remained to use on the iPad.

But apart from that all, data exchange from the Ipad
to the computer is in my eyes the biggest problem.
Especially if you have a PC.

With a Mac it might be a bit easier.

Thanks Subpa,

That's exactly my thoughts. Nomad Sculpt is really nice imho, I've done a lot with it.

For modeling, I couldn't find anything and keep dreaming of being able to using MoI3D alongside with Nomad Sculpt. :-)

your welcome

...For modeling I could not find anything and I still dream
to be able to use MoI3D together with Nomad Sculpt :-) ...

yes, that would be a cool thing

The irony is that MOI was made with Tablets in mind,
as far as I remember.

But I completely understand that the developer would want
to avoid the trouble with the Apple Store.

But since we can keep dreaming. How about an online MOI version
that runs in a browser and could be used that way on the iPad :)
