Surface Blend G1 -> G0 not possible?

Hello everyone,

first I want to greet all of you community members and Michael.

I have purchased a license this week and coming from Rhino, I fell in love with the fast and intuitive workflow.

But I found out, that i cannot create a G1 to G0 surface :-(
In the surface blend command there is only option G1 and G2.

Am i missing something?
Is there a workaround?

Best regards

You could try a Loft between both edges.

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Loft creates unfortunately only G0 continuity on both edges.

Thanks

Hi rhinouser141,

Welcome!

I think there are a couple methods that might give the results you want.

Here I drew some little stubby lines using Draw Curve > Lines coming off the plane to determine the angles at the G0 side. It's easiest to draw the lines after setting up a construction plane aligned with the plane by doing View > CPlane.

I then did 4x blends between the 4 ends of the 2 semicircles and the 4 stubs and Edit > Joined the stubs and blend curves to get rails for Construct > Sweep.

Finally I picked an edge curve as the object to sweep and the upper and lower rails in the second step.

Hi rhinouser141,

See .3dm attached

Another method is Construct > Network where a net of curves is drawn first:

And then they are all selected as the input to Construct > Network:

And finally maybe the most direct method is to use Construct > Blend after first drawing a little stub of a plane at the G0 side:

One way of drawing the stubs is to do Construct > Extrude on an edge curve of the large plane, click Set Dir, and then pick 2 points to set the extrusion direction. A temporary construction line might be useful here.

In the last method what must be the angle / & direction of the little extrude for have a G0?

Other method but not sure of the G0... last blue surface is a sweep with edges and the 2 Blended curves

Yeah, i always temp extrude the G0 edge in the normal tangent direction away from the blend. Then do my blend and delete the temp surface.

We are waiting for multi directional blending and setting curvature for each edge within the command.
