Spacemouse wireless zoom speed consistency in perspective, parallel viewport

Hello,

I’m using Spacemouse wireless on M1 Mac mini.
Currently using Moi v5 beta May-22-2-22.
I’ve been noticing the change of the speed of zoom in perspective view relative to the object size.
For example, rotate, pan, zoom speed set to 1 and working on 30mm cube, the zoom speed in top, front, right and 3d view(perspective) is consistent.
Then when I start working on 3000mm cube, the zoom speed in 3D view(perspective) feels too slow. And then, if I change the zoom speed to 10, it feels fine
In the 3d view(perspective), but in parallel views the speed is too fast.
If I change the 3d view projection to parallel, all viewport zoom speed is consistent, but I would like to work in perspective mode most of the time.
Behaviour is same in V4.
Is there a solution to this?

Hi Ko, sorry no there isn't really a solution for that - perspective is just fundamentally a different thing than a parallel projection and it's difficult to try and make them behave identically.

In a parallel projection view, zooming is done by changing a scale factor value. In a perspective viewport zooming is done by moving the eye point around.

So the underlying zoom mechanisms are pretty different between the 2.

The best way to make them consistent is to set the 3D view projection to parallel so it will use the same mechanism as the ortho views.

Hi Michael,
Understood, thank you for the explanation. I came up with a simple workaround, model small and scale them up!
One more thing, I forgot to set up the space key as enter. Wondering around the forum but couldn't find the answer yet.
"Manage theme" function in V5 is awesome! by the way.

Hi Ko, for making space work as Enter, go to Options > General > "Edit .ini file" button and inside moi.ini find this entry:

TreatSpaceAsEnter=n

which is in the [UI] section, and set it to be:

TreatSpaceAsEnter=y
