MoI on Wine 7 & Ubuntu 20.04 experience and view controls appearing on active window

Hi. I'm very pleased with how well Moi ( V4 & V5 beta ) work on this laptop running Ubuntu 20.04 with Wine 7. The only hiccup I notice is the view control window which appears on top of active windows that aren't MoI. Is this a problem with Wine or MoI ?

Hi Sven, well since it doesn't happen on regular Windows that's a bug in Wine. But it may be difficult for Wine to perfectly recreate Windows zordering behavior.

Can you show me a screenshot of what it looks like?

Maybe I can do something when running on Wine to hide that view controls window when the app loses focus.

there are a few different cases from memory, but here is one where the view controls will remain in foreground while my mouse stays in the same viewport as when MoI was the active application. I'll study as I'm using to MoI to better figure out what is happening. I'm not in need of a workaround, more interested in reporting to right place so as to have fixed.

Thanks

Hi Sven, Yeah that view controls window is what is called an "owned window" which means that the OS (on Windows) will keep it in front of MoI's main window but behind the windows of other apps when switching the foreground app.

I'll give something easy a try though to hide it when you switch from Moi to another app, that will be in the next v5 beta and maybe it will solve this problem.

Hi Sven, I'll send you a PM with a test version.

Even though it's a Wine bug it would be a considerably larger amount of work to get it fixed in Wine without potentially affecting other apps so it's more practical to try and avoid it from happening inside of MoI first.
