Design input kayak compass

Hi, I'm building a kayak and would like to put a compass on the deck.

The kayak is designed by Björn Thomasson and he has also made this design.

But as you can see from my attempt I could use some design input.
The idea is to 3d-print the parts and laminate them with glassfiber and epoxy.
Since the deck is rounded I'm letting the two parts overlap so I have enough material to cut away when putting it on the kayak.

I do want it low profile and a bit subtle, but I think it looks rather boring the way I have done it.

All ideas are appreciated.

I went ahead and 3d-printed the bottom part, and laminated it in place on the kayak.

Maybe all I need to do is remove a bit of the overhang on the top part.
The design on the previous picture has kind of a straight roof on top of the compass.

renklint I think what you have works it is just a matter of if it covers you're design requirements. Here is a simple functional design specification (FDS) that would be good to think about when guiding a design like that.

Kayak Compass

Requirements
Visible to pilot

Options
Hard Mounted or Removable?
If hard mount pierce skin of kayak or mount on top?
If removable how to retain….sticker pad, Velcro, magnets, rivets?
Shade requirement to block UV to prevent degradation lens?
If recessed how to remove/prevent water from collecting?

So kindof late to the game, a change in components could have you go after a different result.

So if you were able to switch to a more Bullitt compass, like this one:

Ritchie X-21 RitchieSport Compass

Then you could create a "tunnel blend".

The angle of the kayak face and also a downward bit of slope, even adding some inset, could be a unique aesthetic design element, but also could be labeled as "structural rib" strength of sorts...

Anyway, and angled cylinder print would be easy enough to create. We could all jockey the idea if that sounded appealing too...
