Hi glorei, there are a couple of different ways you can do that.
One method is to use relative coordinates. When you go to draw your point, you can type an x,y coordinate prefixed by "r" for relative so for example typing in r5,6 and pushing enter will make the point that is created to be offset by that x=5 , y=6 amount from the point you snap on to. So then you pick the corner point with an object snap and the result will be like you want there.
Another way you can do it that is by placing your point inside the rectangle at an arbitrary location to start with and then use the Transform > Move command with the "Distance from edge" option. To do this one you select the point and then run Transform > Move. For the base point snap on to the point object. Then for the target point click the "Distance from edge" button in the command options area. Then you can enter in a distance value and pick on an edge and the point will be placed at that distance away from the edge.
Also another way is to use construction lines. When you draw your point, before placing it type in a distance value and push Enter. That will enable a distance constraint to be applied to the next available pick. You can now drag out a construction line and the end of the construction line will be at that distance. You can then create a second construction line
Let me know if you need more information about any of these methods.
