Actual 3d patterns and problems with boolean difference

Hello everyone

Is it possible to make a simple 3d pattern on a flat surface? Such as this one: https://previews.123rf.com/images/irynaulbutova/irynaulbutova1502/irynaulbutova150200011/36474081-white-seamless-3d-background-with-dots.jpg
The one I'm looking for is basically a pattern made of half spheres (kinda) with one half sphere very close to the other and quite small. Is it possible to do it in a different way than placing manually each sphere in place?
Another pattern is a "grainy" pattern so that when the object is printed has areas that are a bit "grainy" and others that are smooth

Another problem i have is that the boolean difference doesn't work. I have this 3d object made in moi3d and I want to make a mold from it, so i create a 3d rectangle (bigger than the object and higher) and the idea is to subtract the object from the rectangle so it leaves an impression inside. That should be theoretically possible but I'm not able to do it, the software takes some time to process the action then nothing happens.

Thank you very much for any help! The software is great

Use the function Transform / Array X,Y with your half sphere as module!

For make a boolean difference all objects must be a solid!
So don't take a ground without thickness!

Hi Rommo,

Could you post example or your 3dm file to help finding an answer to your question on boolean issue ?
Give us more explains about your question.
Doing boolean operation on an object included in another is possible. So post your file or an example.

To do a 3D pattern you can use array function.

Have fun !

Hi Rommo for your boolean problem as others mentioned above please post your .3dm model file.

Also as mentioned above the Transform > Array tools can be used to make repeating patterns.

For the kind of pattern in your link with every other row shifted you could use Transform > Array > Array Grid in 2 passes, like this:

You can make other kinds of repeating patterns by applying Array Dir in 2 different directions, see here for an example:
