Move a hole?

Greetings MOI experts : )

MoI newby alert : ) I need to 'move' a number of holes cut through a solid cubic surface. I know the basic procedure of removing the hole by deleting the inner faces and then the trimming lines, but I just wanted to check if there was an easier option - ie 'sliding the hole around on the surface' before I do a lot of 'sealing and re-cutting'.

Thanks for any help.

You can select the solid with the holes, then execute the Separate command.

After this you can use Show Pts to show the points of the separated surfaces, select points, move points, and when all is done you can use the Join command to turn everything into a solid again.

Hi Viewbyte, sorry no there isn't anything for sliding a hole around. If that's something you need to do often there are other CAD programs out there like SolidWorks, Solid Edge, OnShape, ViaCAD, Alibre, and others, which are focused on building a parametric feature tree which you can then edit later on. One of those programs may be better suited for you than MoI. Moi is strong in different qualities like drawing things in a quick and fluid manner.

In Moi if you want to move a hole around it can be helpful if you save a version of the model before drilling the hole so you can go back to it easier.

If you need help with it please post the .3dm model file or e-mail it to me at moi@moi3d.com if you want to keep it private.

""""""holes cut through a solid cubic surface"""""

If you have slabs or plates with holes, the easier way waould be to delete the top and bottom faces only.

Then slide and move you holes around.

Selecting all the edges and boundary to run planar to reform a sold is trivial.

My tip is always keep your curves so you can modify and rebuild later.
