Operations with object names

Hi Mike!
I looked through all the topics on the forum, but did not find an answer.
Is there a function (option) or script or addon that can be used to manipulate object names?

When you have a lot of objects and some (or all) of them need to be renamed, it takes an awful lot of time. Alas ((

Blender has several different add-ons that allow you to perform group operations for renaming or prefixing / suffixing object names.

Maybe there is something similar for MOI3D?

Hi krass, try the attached plugin scripts. One is for object names of the selected objects, the other is for style names.

The way they work is the command will write out the names to a text file (you pick the file name). Then the command will wait for you to edit the text file in whatever text editor you like. When you are done editing the text file, resave it and go back into MoI and push "Done". The command will then load the text file back in again and rename objects to the new names in the edited text file.

One thing to watch out for is you cannot change the ordering of the names in the file and do not add or delete lines. The command is expecting each line of text in the text file to correspond to a particular object (or style) in MoI.

But this way you can use the search and replace function in whatever text editor you like to manipulate the object or style names.

- Michael
