Issue with text input field

Hello Michael, all,

I've just noticed that there seems to be an issue with the behavior of the text input field. Now to be fair I cannot tell if the issue is caused by my heavily customized UI (and perhaps my various background apps ?), but I don't believe so.

I am running into the following : when highlighting text to replace it like one naturally would (see gif), the highlight cancels out on mouse release. Double clicking to select the whole text seems to work as expected though.

I hope this makes sense !

Hi pior, thanks for reporting this bug. I can repeat it over here and it seems to happen when you release the mouse outside of the UI panel where the drag started in.

I'll investigate a fix for v5.

One thing to note - you actually can skip selecting anything, if you just start typing it will automatically put focus into that field and replace the current text.

- Michael

Hello ! Always happy to help :)

About typing straight away : I would argue that this is only partially true, as any key that is already set as a tool shortcut (for instance having J set to trigger "join") causes the text tool to cancel out and exit. So there might be a need for an exception here (ignoring shortcut inputs while in the text creation tool). The temporary workaround being, of course, to get into the habit of always starting a text entry with something not already assigned as a tool shortcut :D

Hi pior, the other way you can do it is to press the Tab key which will put focus in that field and select all text without needing to use the mouse to do it. You can use this method if you have a bunch of shortcut keys set up.

Just type your text before the default one then Press the Delete keys at the end of the new text until the default text will be erased...
Not a big deal! :)

Hello FP,
Sure enough that's another way to work around the issue, but any UX issue is worth reporting IMHO, as I believe it can only make the software better in the long run.
