Is there any way to switch drawing tools on the fly ? Specifically Polyline <> Interpcurve

Hello Michael, all,

The following has probably already been brought up but I though I'd ask anyways.

About 90% of my time in MOI consists of cleaning up rough 2d designs loaded up as reference images, using the polyline tool and the interp curve tool (and the occasional circle or rectangle).

One thing that would make my work about 2x faster would be the ability to toggle my drawing tool on the fly (between polyline and interp curve) without having to confirm/exit the previous tool. By that I mean : being able to click points to create a polyline, and then inputting something with the mouse or KB to switch mode to interp, and keep working. Or any clever equivalent way to create straight lines and curve lines in one go without having to confirm/change tools really ... Photoshop does this with the Pen tool by distinguishing click(corner) and click-drag(curve point) ; I could see myself enjoying doing something similar in MOI, by tapping spacebar to toggle between the two tools for instance.

Note that my need is really specific to these two tools in particular. I totally understand that such live switching of tools wouldn't even be possible in many cases.
This would basically allow one to work on the full outline of a design in one pass, and then add internal details, and call it a day. As opposed to having to inch one's way through the task by constantly switching tools.

I hope this makes sense !

Hi Pior, there isn't a way to switch commands on the fly but you can make straight lines without leaving the control point or interpolated curve commands.

You do that by holding down the Ctrl key when placing a point which will make a corner point. If you make 2 corner points in a row you will get a straight line between them.

+1 Pior. Great suggestion.

Most of my profile curves for constructing solid objects have a combination of straight lines with corner points and free form curves.

Opps... Along comes Michael with a tip I didn't know :) I really need to read the manual some day.

Well, what can I say !! This is excellent, I had no idea. The speed gain is actually way more than 2x now that I can practically try it - more along the lines of 4x or even 5x in my case, this is excellent.

The opposite could be cool too (polyline to interpthrough by holding ctrl) - but then I suppose that interpthrough is not necessarily the "obvious" alternate, since someone might want regular control points instead. As a matter of fact both are equally useful, obviously.

In any case, thanks ! This is really, really fast.
