Good morning everyone. I'm in the process of buying a new computer for design. My daily driver is a Linux machine and I've run into a few issues running MOI via Wine. before I take the plunge, I wanted to know if MOI will work on new Macs running on the M1chip.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, MoI V4 works fine on an Apple Silicon Mac, but is not yet optimized for M1 chips.

Two thumbs up here: MoI works great on my MacBook Pro with the M1 chip. I'm running the standard MoI V4 Intel image, so it is being translated, but I do not notice any issues with performance or usability.

I'm sure Michael is aware of this but it should be noted anyway that Apple will probably kill off the translation layer (rosseta 2) 2 or 3 versions of MacOS down the line just like they did with Rosseta 1 which translated intel code to powerpc instruction set.

Just a thing to keep in mind.

MoI v5 will be a universal binary that includes both arm64 and x86_64 builds in it. I am still waiting for an update to the SketchUpSDK library, that's the one dependency that is still missing.

That's great news actually for Mac users.

You know what, would it tragically be much more different from a iPadOS build this Arm64 for M1 ? I know you said in the past you're not interested but think about it, Moi3D is designed to be used with a Pen on a touchscreen. iPads are exactly that (coupled with an Apple Pencil ofcourse)

Just a thought. please don't hit me ! :))

Hi dlbogdan, sorry no that's a whole different kettle of fish. Apple has decided that you can't use an iPad like a regular computer, to start with you can't even distribute software for an iPad on your own, it's only through the app store. Just that by itself is enough to keep me away.

I have my hands totally full just supporting 2 platforms as it is anyway.
