finding parting lines for mold making in MoI

Came across the SplitLine command in SW in this article here https://blog.alignex.com/how-to-find-the-widest-part-of-your-geometry-in-solidworks

Is there something that gets me close to this in MoI ?

I am trying do 3D print some objects for later mold making with plaster for porcelain casting, so I am still pretty far away from the requirements for injection molding.

Have a great Sunday everyone !

Seems any curves (or surface, or volumes) can make that ... just boolean diff...on any volumes...
with keeping or not volumes depending of what is wanted...
here curves

Hi Ditto, yes you can use the Construct > Curve > Silhouette command in MoI to calculate that parting curve.

Select your object, then run Construct > Curve > Silhou :

In the command options set "View: Top", the silhouette curve generated from the Top view is the parting line. You can then use Edit > Trim to cut the object with that curve to separate it into pieces.

Hi Pilou,

No that's not the same thing. It's not only just cutting a block into 2 pieces anywhere, you need the cut line on the surface to be at the furthest outline from a "pull direction", which is what the Construct > Curve > Silhouette command will calculate.

Once the object is cut along that silhouette then you can construct some surfaces going away from it to divide the block.
