Hi,

was just curious if the enterprise lcd panel would work with moi like it does on autocad products for example?
And does 3d mouse works in general for moi navigation since I've read here that some people had problems in the past ? :)

thx in advance

Hi Chris, the space mouse is supported but I have not specifically tested the enterprise version functions myself.

There were some tune ups to space mouse support in v4 after some of the last problems were reported, like the default speed being too fast.

I've got an Enterprise and can report that MoI is one of the very few programs my 3d mouse never worked correctly with. In some way it works but it always feels off and "incorrect" despite whatever driver version, or whatever settings in both MoI and the driver. This is a problem I reported already years ago. But it has nothing to do with the Enterprise, it doesn't work with the SpaceMouse Pro (Wireless) either. For my the 3d mouse settings in MoI are useless because they are more or less nonfunctional and no comparison to other implementations like in ZBrush, CATIA and similar.

Hi 3image, I'll need something less vague than that in order to do something to improve the space mouse support. As far as I can tell it's working fine for me over here.

I added some settings in the Sep-10-2020 v4 beta for some user requests:

3DConnexion updates:
- Updated 3dx default speed on Windows. On Windows 3dx translation and rotation speed was too fast, implement same default speed as Mac.
- Add "Reverse roll" setting in Options dialog under Options > View > Rotate/Pan/Zoom options > 3DConnexion options. Requested by Fred in the forum here:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=9660.30
- Also added individual settings for reversing twist or tilt in moi.ini, under:
[3Dconnexion]
<...>
ReverseTwist=y
ReverseTilt=y

Michael, I'm sorry to tell you that I just can't get it to work correctly. Although panning and zooming in the orthographic views with the 3d mouse works fine, the 3d view manipulation is just a mess. No matter what setting in whatever combination.

If you could post some screenshots of both the settings in Moi and in the 3dconnexion driver you set up on your system, I'd happily check them up if they work for me. I already have the v4 final here so I'm up-to-date.

Hi 3image, my settings look like this:

What other apps do you use that have the 3D view behavior that works better for you?
Anything a little lighter weight than Catia or ZBrush that I could test with over here more easily?

Thanks, Michael.

Ok, with those settings, the 3d mouse behaviour falls apart completely. ;-)

I think the implementation in Solid Edge is quite good. Rhino is ok, too.

May I ask what 3d mouse you use?

Hi 3image,

re:

I don't use it for my regular work but for testing I have an old version of the Space Navigator.

The latest v7. But the behavior was the same in the previous version.

As far as I know the Space Navigator is already deprecated and isn't supported in the newest driver anymore. But I'm not entirely sure.

Uhh, I forget. Autodesk Fusion 360 has also a very good implementation. It's free for personal use.

Hi 3image, ok so looking at Fusion 360, the first couple of settings you should adjust in MoI are:

1 - Set Options > View > 3D view projection = Parallel:

This is a file level setting so to make it the default for when you initially launch MoI or do File > New you should save to a .3dm file and then set that .3dm file as the startup template under Options > General > Template file.

2 - Set Options > View > Rotate/Pan/Zoom options > Rotation style = "Free rotation":

Is that any closer?

Let's start there and then look at adjusting the 3Dconnexion settings.

- Michael

Hello Michael,
I am using Moi3D in parallel with other 3D SW like CATIA V5 & SolidWorks. I have to confirm, that behavior of 3D mouse is (at minimum for me) strange. I am using wireless version of SpaceMouse (combo with CadMouse). I have quite fresh drivers (not the last one).

If you want to compare behavior of mouse, please run 3Dconnexion Viewer from 3DConnexion driver pack. I am using 3DMouse with "virtual" axis XYZ on the screen, and I am expecting that model on screen is following movements of device according these virtual axis.

This is running well in Object Mode (it is visible in Advanced Settings of running driver) These settings looks different for each active application (window content is changed according active window)

Unfortunately up to now (last beta V4) the behavior of MOI is the same. The biggest issue is rotation according respective axis (or exises ? what is correct?:-)). This is my best setting in MOI where rotation according X is OK, according Y is OK, but according Z is NOT OK.

Hopefully this will enlighten differences in behavior of 3DMouse in MOI.

Thanks
Petr

Hi Petr, do you see any difference if you enable "Allow rotation tilt" ? :

There are also a couple of settings available in moi.ini which aren't shown currently in the regular UI. If they are helpful I can promote them to the UI in v5. These are:

[3Dconnexion]
ReverseTwist=n
ReverseTilt=n

To edit the moi.ini file go to Options > General and push the "Edit .ini file" button.

The default behavior for MoI's view handling is based on manipulating the viewer which is a little different than focused on manipulating the object like SolidWorks and Catia as you are used to. That's why there are some settings to adjust if you want to get that type of behavior.

But maybe it would be easier for these settings to change automatically if you set Rotation style = "Free rotation".

Thanks,
- Michael

Hi Petr, that's great I'm glad that's set up ok for you now.

So just to make sure I've got it, the settings needed are:

Rotation style = "Free rotation"
Allow rotation tilt checked
Swap twist and tilt checked
and option in moi.ini for ReverseTilt=y

With those options set in MoI you don't need to alter anything in the driver's settings is that correct?

Is the default speed ok now? That was adjusted in MoI v4.

Hi Michael,
exactly.

I don't need any other settings to modify. These settings even work with Perspective projection.
The speed of rotation is also fine for me.

Nice day
Petr
