Yes Burrman like the one you attached but with the more irregularly folded fabric ... but less vertical .... like those found in the living rooms of the houses ... it doesn't have to look like the grass in the garden to understand

Hi Tony, usually something like that with small rough details is better done in a rendering program using some specific tools for making hair and such.

That type of thing is usually not a good fit for a CAD program like MoI.

Hi micheal

Yes, my program allows me to create a grass model but unfortunately it does not take the form of the details of a carpet which are like those of the hair but less vertical and more distributed horizontally.

Thanks Pilou I'll take a look

Hi Anthony,
Yeah, pretty funny.

I create a single vertical line, then rebuild with points. Maybe 10.

Then grid array about 20 x 20 with an appropriate spacing for size. 1/2 inch in this case. Then i ran "DistortCurves" script.

Then when Tony asked to flatten things, i ran the "randomize" with a rotate only check, in x and y only.

Then i flattened the whole set a little more with MoI's edit frame.

Then i did another 2 directional arrays to get a larger piece set.

Then i did a flow from a flat plane to a curved surface to get uneven ground....

After you get say "24,000" curves in your array, the file will get pretty heavy.

If you turned the curves into solids to have "yarn", the 24,000 solids would pretty much make life unacceptable!!! Lol

wow, that is 'thinking outside the box' for sure. i always hated when people said catchphrases like that. but seems to 'actual' apply to something for once. never thought I would see something like what you made from a NURBS program.

""""""Not sure that vacuum cleaner can make it's job! :)"""""

Ha.... the old shag carpet in my house in '71 laid pretty much flat like that....

But for most carpet, i would probably look for a "half way or less" bend... that would come at the "randomize" point...

But really now.... Michaels answer here is really the answer....

You'll end up needing Pixar's render farm just to visualize the carpet...

Hey, more cliche phrases!!! :)

Pixar made a kids movie called cars. In it was a single scene that only lasted for a few seconds. The car and its love interest stared out over a beautiful mountain scape.

Each frame of the scene took 72 hours on pixars render farm. A massive building full of the highest end computer power.. 24 frames a second. 4 or 5 seconds or so...

People get nuts about stuff....

If Tony wants to model carpet, all the best!
