Hi,

I need to create an flashlight modell, and I`m stucked with creating specific grid. Do you guys have any idea how to smart aproach to this? I know that I can create single bolt and multiple it across cylinder, but I think that this isnt the smartest way...

Make a "Flat" one then use the Flow function for "project" on any target volume's surface! ;)

Will work of course also with start "surfaces","volumes" ! ;)

Hi andrzejgdula, generally something like that is better to do as a texture map or shader inside of a rendering program rather than modeled as actual geometry.

If you did want to model it then probably building a flat pattern with some sweeps and then using Flow like Pilou shows above would be the easiest way. There is some more information on Flow here:

Here is a machinist type reference, likely with much more information than desired :-)

I think that if a person is going to boolean away the "grooves", that their size must match up with the circumference, to avoid a discontinuity...

It looks like some of the tools move the metal, rather than machine it away...(probably not a desired CAD method.)

No more time to play today.

Hi,
try this.
Create star shape in custom mode and extrude.
Add a twist then mirror object and boolean union.
Cheers
Barry
