Hi ZBW, what is the goal that you are trying to achieve by refining the wireframe in MoI after doing the import?
Currently MoI does not have its own sub-d modeling tools, so if you want to apply sub-d modeling techniques you would do that in your Sub-d modeling program before transferring it into MoI.
Once you have transferred it into MoI you can use CAD modeling techniques on your object like booleans for example, but not sub-d modeling techniques on it inside of MoI. Not yet.
Also another thing to look out for is when you transfer your sub-d model over you want to transfer the base level 0 control mesh, not one that has already had sub-d smoothing applied to it, that will cause the NURBS model in MoI to be excessively dense for no benefit. I mention this because in your screenshot it looks like what you are calling the "base mesh" looks like it has had some refinement applied to it and is not the actual base control mesh.
