Thanks very much - it all makes sense now.

Just FYI - as an experiment I edited the Default color to RGB = (0,0,1) and then back to (0,0,0). After that I got all Black objects as in your example.

So there appears to be something special about the default Default color settings. Once edited the only way I could find to get back the original Default was to click on the "Add default styles" item in the Styles "drop down menu".

Seems to be a bug, some cached information not getting rebuilt. It seems to be fixed for the next beta already.
