Hi Andre, it's kind of both. It's a known rendering bug but it has intentionally not been fixed as of yet since the fix could cause some performance degradation for all curve drawing.

See here:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=4101.2

At some point I should be able to do a careful fix but I'm not sure exactly when. Thanks for reporting it.

HI Michael,

Really enjoying the DIMS function in MOI great for quick markups. Here is one example if possible to add a dimension style where the dimension sits outside to the side of the lines dimensioned area. In areas where mixing large scale and small scale dimensions would be good so its still legible.

Hi Alex, in the Jan-22-2020 v4 beta there is now an option for putting the arrows to the outside like you want there.

It's under Arrows > Position = "Outside" , and also when it is set some additional options for "Outside line length" and "Draw line across" will appear in the "Dim lines" section:

It does not try to place the text to the outside but (it looks like you've seen this already) you can turn on edit points for a dim with Edit > Show pts and then drag the point for the text to position it off to the side where you want it.

You can set Arrows > Position = "Outside" on an individual dimension by using the "Details..." button in the object properties that shows up for the selected object, or also set it as a preset under Options > Dimensions, then select that preset when you initially draw the dimension.

Let me know if that was not what you were looking for.

- Michael

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the tip with Arrow heads - with the DIM type I did that in Photoshop is that possible to achieve in MOI also?

regards
Alex.

Hi Alex, yes it's possible to do that in MoI now. You would set the arrow position to "Outside", and also turn on points for the dimension and drag the text point off to the side.

Here's a demonstration:

WOW! that really takes the dimensioning to the level of producing easily read drawings.

Looking forward to final release with PDF and DXF export capabilities - at the moment just taking screen shots and thats good enough to them them over line.

I guess your user guide once its already will demonstrate these capabilities.

thanks

Alex.

Mi Michael,
Great work!
I see you added a lot of items into MoI since beta I've used.
I modified some stuff in moi.ini and was wondering what would happen if I overwrite my old .ini file to latest beta.

Is there any way someone can import custom settings from old .ini to the new version?
Or do I have to do a text comparison in some 3rd party tool and put together .ini file that would work?

Thanks a lot
Juraj

Hi Mr. Yuri, it's no problem to use a previous moi.ini with a new beta. The new version will automatically write out any new settings that it uses. The new settings will start out with default values.

So you don't have to do any text comparisons or merging, just have the new MoI release use your previous moi.ini file and it will get new things added to it automatically.

If there is no moi.ini found at all, a new one will be created with default values. If there is an existing one, it will get used and new values will be added to it, with previous settings remaining the same and the newly added ones having default values.

You have 2 possibilities
_importObj by Max Smirnov http://moi.maxsm.net/files/scripts/ImportObj.v.1.5.2015.09.10.zip

and the SUbdiv / create from file native directly inside Moi by Michael

Thanks kindly, but I never understood on how to install plugins for MOI3D? It seems somewhat awkward.

Cheers

Hi Michael.
This is awesome.
Tried and seems to work.

Only my scene browser is really narrow now.
I had it almost double the size.
I tried to search ini for scene or browser but cannot find how to edit width.
Also searched forum but searching here is quite a pain and I didn't find it.

Regards,
Juraj

"plugins" are commands not native generally in 2 files .js, .htm sometime with an image more .png...

that you just put inside the Moi commands folder...so one, two or three files...
then make a shortcut with _CMorph on the secound column, or Press TAb then write _Cmorph (with any capitals but without spaces)

Here for example the Cmorph by Max Smirnov from http://moi.maxsm.net/media/files/
inside the commands folder

and the result...a morphing between 3 curves (must be true curves "curvated" not straight polylines!)

For some "plugins"... so "commands" of Max Smirnov take a look at this page ;)
(in French but very illustrative ;)

Hi Kenmo,

re:

That's great, I'm glad it will be useful for you!

It should open up a lot of new possibilities to use sub-d modeling to create some organic base forms and then bring those into MoI for further CAD type work with booleans, etc...

It's a new feature in this current v4 beta that you can drag the edge scene browser with the mouse to change its width.

It's the second thing listed in the beta release notes in the first message of this thread:

If it doesn't work then you probably have overwrittten the MainWindowLayout.xml file in this new beta with the old one from the previous release. If so then don't do that, it is not supported to overwrite the entire UI of a new release with all the UI of an old release, that's very different than using an old moi.ini file. Just overwriting all of the UI files will result in a mangled install that will not have any new UI functions working properly.

- Michael

EDIT: file name referred to should be "MainWindowLayout.xml".

Hello Michael,
I noticed the changes :)
however I installed Codys dark theme (http://moi3d.com/forum/messages.php?webtag=MOI&msg=9242.1) and that screwed the dragging of the pane.
It was \ui\commandbar.htm or \ui\_newcommandbar.htm.

Will notify Cody as dark theme with modified UI was great for me.
But some other features might get impacted so I leave it for now :(

Thanks a lot for explanation.

Hi Mr. Yuri, if Codys dark theme is overwriting the entire UI folder then that's what can cause the most problems with interfering with new features.

For the scene browser resizing, it is probably enough to make sure the file "MainWindowLayout.xml" in the ui folder is not overwritten, make sure that file comes from the current v4 beta's default installation instead of from a previous v4 beta. It has some new attributes in it marking the browser pane to be resizable and if you overwrite it with an old one that will be lost.

But in general overwriting the whole UI folder with files from previous versions can cause these kinds of problems.

Thanks kindly for the reply. But your response did not help. I know what short cuts are but I don't know what second column you are talking about?

Installing plugins in Photoshop, 3DCoat or Blender3D are easy. Doing so in MOI3D is very awkward. I'm no computer dummy, I recently retired after being a System Administrator for over 30 years (Novel Netware, Suse linux, Windows server).

Cheers & many thanks..
