Hello Stefan and everyone.

Hmmm...no good news for me from the Thea team at the moment.

In short:
1 - Unfortunately, Thea for Rhino v2.0 will not be available for Rhino 5.

2 - Only with Rhino V6, Cinema 4D and SketchUp plugins

3 - No stand alone version.

But the biggest problem for me is the lack of support for Rhino V5.
I don't want to buy Rhino V6 upgrade...It costs too much.

Anyway, this is their reply.

"Dear Marco,
Thea Studio v2.0 will not be available for purchase. Instead, we have worked on a brand new product that will take its place with an enhanced user interface and workflow, utilizing Thea Render v2.0 core technology. An announcement will be made once the release date of the new product is definite.

Unfortunately, Thea for Rhino v2.0 will not be available for Rhino 5.

The 1080Ti is being supported by Thea and the new engine has lots of performance optimizations.

Please let me know if you have any other question.

Kind Regards,
Thea Render Support Team"

Hi Marco,

have you ever tried Arion Standalone? Arion has also GPU support and produces
image quality like Maxwell and the standalone is only 195 €. I had purchased it
many years ago if they had an OS X version...

Thanks Stefan!

Maybe I will give it a try...

I don't know...200 bucks are not so few....

And there's always the great alternative of Blender!!!

Don't forget Blender... :)

Ok...its Cycles engine is not the fastest (also with GPU) and it suffers a little bit too much of graining, also with the denoising filter, but...wow...it's free and it has tons, tons of features!!
And the 2.8 is near...

...it's FREE :)

Downloaded the demo some minute ago....got a quick tour...and...uninstalled :)

I don't like the UI and the workflow, not at all.

I think I will stick with the previous version (1.5) of Thea and with the free Blender.

Thanks anyway.

Hi Marco,

yes, Cycles is o.k. but imho not top notch like Maxwell or Arion...

To bad that you don't like the UI.

Well...the truth is that I can't take it anymore of complex and messy UI...with super tiny buttons and labels, and with really bad UX and color palettes...

This is one of the reason why I'm in love with Procreate on iPad Pro.
Minimalist and fully immersive UI with a superb UX :)

Hello,

This is hilarious. I told the people at Altair that they needed a decent UX for the next generation of TR and they decided to listen to a bunch of hysterical fanboys without a shred of UXD experience instead to drive the product design.

That forum and company is now a dumpster fire, I can't see myself sticking around for the new studio version given the history of poor decisions they are making.

I'm sticking with 1.5 until I do a proper evaluation of alternatives because the plugins I use in Rhino v5 way more valuable to my workflow than T4R 2 working only on version Rhino v6, also a lame duck release.

I'm checking out some alternatives over the coming weeks, hopefully something will turn up that integrates well.

Thanks a lot OSTexo for sharing!

I agree with you!
It’s really bad to see that the SUPERB rendering engine writtem by the former Thea’s team, has been “wrapped” by such a poor and obsolete UI.

Actually the version 1.5, with its “Presto” engine, coupled with a powerful GPU, like a Gtx 1080 Ti (or 2 or 4 of them) or with a Quadro P5000, is still the the fastest quasi-photorealistic rendering engine of the consumer market, so I’ll stick with it.

For sure I'm not buying the upgrade to 2.0 nor the V6 of Rhino...

And also...for the moment...log live to Blender :)

Ciao!

Hi everyone, for years I have been following every render engine that has been released in the last 20 years, now all are based on the same algorithms of the famous PBR book, with recent variations .. I believe that the solution is always subjective. The market offers everything. I just want to remind you that there exists besides my beloved Blender also Indigo from which many have been inspired and many have given their contribution, naturally, within a certain time Eevee will have to go out, surely a novelty expected by many.

Personally, Thearender has never convinced me ..

Thanks pafurijaz for the info about Indigorender.
Interesting product...but actually 595 USD are not few...

Again...installed...got a quick tour...removed :)

Its UI and UX is very close to Arion stand-alone...too bad UX for my liking.

I'm waiting for official release of Blender 2.8 too, although I must admit that recently I'm not more a big fun of all these "PBR-pseudo-gaming engines"...
But EEVEE show great potential.
I'm really curious to see which rendering features it have to offer us.
We'll see...

Seems you have forgotten 3 big famillies of renderers! ;)

- The easy speedy renders online like SktechFab (free if you use it as not privated) https://sketchfab.com

- The easy ergonomic (but not economic :) Lumion & TwinMotion https://lumion.com https://twinmotion.abvent.com

- And the 2 megas monsters (free) Unreal & Unity https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/what-is-unreal-engine-4 https://unity3d.com/fr

PS Mamouset & Octane https://marmoset.co/toolbag/ https://home.otoy.com/render/octane-render/

But my favorite is SimLab Composer (free in Lite version maxi 1920 *1080 Real Time) maybe because I have made the French site! :) https://simlabfr.weebly.com/light.html you can load quasi all 3D formats existing and mix them !
a Moi model :)

a Moi model

and the little last free one who is very funny to use! (new version since few days!

Pseudo fractal with some tricky shaders! ;) https://github.com/kchapelier/pseudofractals-voxel-shader
The funny is that is made in 10 secondes! Astonishing! The Fish eyes is terrific! (Stereographic Projection)

Few cubes of red lights!

The incredible of this : that is only "Voxels" so cubic cubes!!! This MagicaVoxel is a true gem! And what ergonomy!

Hi Pilou!

Your MagicaVoxel models and renderings are really cool!!
Really impressive.

Put them all together into a specific portfolio :)

Oh man...what the hell...

I spent almost 1 hour trying to install all Luxorender's stuff (stand alone, Blender plugins, loading example scene...)
No way!.

Read the Wiki page...no way.
Installed the support Visual c++ libraries (on my WIndows 10 64 Bit Pro) and so on...

Ok. I gave it a try and it has wasted enough of my time today :)

I got rid of it. It's a pain... (at least for me)

I stick with Cycle's Blender and my 1.5 Version of Thea (for the moment)

Thanks anyway for suggestions.

Ciao :)
