No, and i think since ArtForm is it's successor you can no longer buy JDPaint from their site.

But ArtForm is almost the same as JDPaint.

And then there is also JDSolid, but i think this is also not free.

Would be interesting to see JDSolid in action...

Friends of Nurbs!

Different possibilities to draw a basically simple shape with different curves did not let me go.
I also tried the procedure with SubD. Unfortunately, however, I always came up with an uncontrollable result.
Finally, however, I found an additional quick and well controllable possibility, which delivered a clear result.

Have a nice day,
Franz

My attempts with SubD:

Hi Franz.

@You : "...I also tried the procedure with SubD. Unfortunately, however, I always came up with an uncontrollable result...."

Hmm....this sounds a bit strange...
The good thing about SubD is that you can always leverage on supporting edges placed near of far the main edge loops to control the sharpness of the curvature.

But this is much easier if you do SubD things using a "true" SubD modeler. Moi + Max's SubDiv plugin is great but has a lot of limitation because Moi is Nurbs, SubDiv not :)

Of course it's not the same thing like dealing with true Class-A surface tools but...

Ciao!

Why not try my first little tricks ?
Seems you can control all that you want! :)
And it's pure Nurbs!
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=8847.1

PS That works also on SUbD result! ;)

Hi Franz,

you have more control with your model if you can add more edge loops.
Max's split command, for his subd script, does this.

Stefan

Thank you, stefan.
I may just need to understand what is really important when using SubD. I will try again....

Best regards
Franz

Hello Franz!

@You : "...I may just need to understand what is really important when using SubD...."

Simple....two things :

1) Create only quad polygons and a very few triangles. No polygons that has more than 4 edges if you really want good results.
Ok, if you know that some particular area of the object will not be framed by the camera then you can do what you for with that area,
but if something has to be viewed by the camera and/or close to it you must have quads if you want good results when subdiv.

2) Create edge loops only where you need it.

But these two points are not simple. You need years of experience :)

Ciao!

If that can help :)

As a form like this can't be SuDivided directly (Top face more than 5 edges)

Use SSPlit for trim
Use SBridge for "Blend Faces" only 2 by 2
Use _SUbD for SubDivide

Copy / Move faces
Bridge them

Extrude to Point or Nsided (kill the caps before) can be used for simple form :)

Thank You all!

Valuable tips. I tried a little bit and got closer to the goal.

I have another question. With SSplit it doesn't work with create and move position with one point.
The position of the split edge can only be adjusted with the slider.

How do you do it, Pilou?

Franz

I have not your Box Dialog for this sort of "trim" section segment wanted! :)

I have just a ShortCut "P" for the plugin _SSplit of Max Smirnov
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=6674.254

So on a rectangular box (as shown on the video)

Function call a Face(s) or a segment...so

I click on a segment (so pre-selection) then Press "P"

For a vertical "trim" select an horizontal segment and you can move your vertical "section"!
Select a segment etc...

Of course if you want an horizontal "trim" select a vertical segment and move your horizontal "section" ! :)

Of course after one apply section you can just select a segment and Richt Click (recall last function) or Press "P" as yo want!

You must "bridged" faces for have this subdivided volume! If you make extrude you will have separated subdivided volumes!

PS If you select a Face I have your Box Dialog for input quadrangular faces on the selected face(s)!

I don't know if "trim section" is the good words ... "subdivided section" ? ...

These plugins (SSplit, SBridge, SSCale, SubD ) is a true gem! :)

Bravo to MAX !

Just if "snap" during the move of the segment section will existing that will be gorgeous! But not vital for organic volumes! :)

Hi Pilou!

I tried to insert the older version sSplit. v. 0.6.2015.03.26 with a renaming to sSplit_old next to the new version.
But only the newer version works, maybe something would have to be changed in the files sSplit_old. The old version would have the additional effect that you could work with equal values for a cube (10,90 or 30,70) to get a symmetry.
(Because of missing snaps).
We can't thank Max enough, I agree.
This forum is full of extraordinary people.

Franz

Hi Pilou!
Before I have not seen the counter, so I can also reach symmetry.
That's actually enough.
Thanks for the tip with the points shift, it is getting better and more controllable. Great!
Franz
