Hi Brian, yeah it's very likely that lofting through smooth curves will be a lot better, lofting through polylines will make a lot of faceted faces.
For converting polylines to a through point curve the Rebuild command will do that, set it to "Mode: Endpoints" and it will make a curve passing through every segment endpoint.
