would anyone find it handy to be able to assign a objected name to a bunch of text has part of the "text options panel"?

Hi Steve - the tricky part about stuff like that is things can start to get weird when certain commands have extra bits of UI like that hanging on them. I'd need to figure out how to justify why only the Text command should have that kind of special option on it and not any other command. And on the converse side adding in an "object name" option to every single command would involve a whole lot of additional UI.

UI can be pretty tricky to keep streamlined and easy to use - simply adding too many controls and too many numerous options has a tendency to ruin simplicity...

hmmm, for me :) , when I use text, 99% of the time I'm adding more than 1 text element, so it's a little different the other solid objects.
I would be very happy is there is a way to just have all the new text elements getting automatic selected on completion of adding them.

Can I setup a short cut key, to select all new objects?

Hi Steve, yes you can set up a shortcut key that will select all objects that were created by the last command that was run. To do that, go to Options > Shortcut keys, and add in a new shortcut key, for the command part paste in the script shown here:
