Iron Man Mark III helmet

First stab at making the helmet from the first movie. I'm basing this much more on the concept art by Phil Saunders than the final version seen on the screen. I'm not too happy with the way the cheeks in the face plate flow into the rest of the head, so I'm going to refine that. Love the lighting options in MoI. The metallic lighting and specular highlight settings gave me a graphic-novel look with almost no effort. I also did a quick render in Modo using a few material presets and environment probes.

Hi SurlyBird, it's looking great already! And yeah that metallic lighting mode screenshot from MoI really goes well with it, looks like another render...

For a complex model such as this, I imagine you had to do quite a bit planning. Well executed. I found it inspiring.
Rounding those hard edges will be quite a task in MOI, how do you plan to solve this?

Thanks,
Ambimind

Stark? Is that you? No, the engineering prowess.... by what means of machinery or magic was that creation conjured. Why it was MoI of course!

Inspiring job SurlyBird, keep up the good work!

After the helmet, I decided to build the whole suit. Blocked in most of the exterior shell. There are still a lot of changes I need to make and there's a ton of refinement left to do, but I like where it is going, overall. Included a shot of the profile curves I created to show some of the construction methodology.

This has been a challenging, but fun, project and I really wouldn't want to build something like this in any other program. The more I use MoI the more I don't want to use any other modeling tool.

Wow, that is looking tremendous!

Love the shot with all your various generator curves showing as well, it looks cool.

Thanks, Michael, Marc.

I want to do a postmortem at some point describing my process. Might be some interest in that, I think. The hardest part of this has been sourcing accurate reference and reverse engineering how the various pieces integrate into each other.

Fantastic,

I really would love to learn how you approached this and processes you did to create this model.

Again a brilliant result my friend

Thanks for the comments, everybody. I will try to get a few tutorial-style things together in the next few days or so.
