Hi ...

I do most of my drafting with Rhino but when I have to use an AutoCad clone then DraftSight is a good one. I gave up AutoCad a few years back and have been using ProgeCad (Intellicad) but it does not translate font type as well as DraftSIght does. DraftSight is only 2d but a great program considering it's for free

I still hope for dimensioning and line weight styles in MoI in the foreseeable future. It is now my favorite CAD and modeling program ... I would just like it to do a few more things I need.

cheers,
eric

Although I own ACAD2011 I don't use it any more and I won't upgrade.... I use Revit and ACAD was part of the Revit Arch suite... However it is too "heavy" for what I need it and Draftsight is light, fast and really useful...

I think so. Draftsight is only 45 MB. I planned buying intellicad but I gave up . Draftsigh is perfect even it is free :) I love it.

JTB IF Revit and ACAD are too "heavy" for you take a look @ VASARI http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/vasari/

At the moment Draftsight seems to be the best free alternative to AutocadLT, lets hope Dassault Systemes will continue to develop it and it wont have the some destiny as DWGeditor...
IT seems Dassault Systemes is trying everything to help AutoCAD users to move to SolidWorks & Catia...

Competition is good BUT personally I'm not interested on another "FREE" DWG clone destined to fail. And is not the first time they fail to deliver innovation, look at 3DVIA SHAPE for exampled, a pathetic SketchUp clone which they never manage to evolve...

Dassault "withdrew" the DWGEditor following legal action by Autodesk regarding the use of "DWG". I think they just changed the name.

Steve just for the record Draftsight is not DWGeditor.
Draftsight is a rename of ARES a product that Dassault Systemes have OEM’ed from http://www.graebert.com

Now all those apps often called DWG clones which some if not all are basted on ODA's DWGDirect http://www.opendwg.org/

What ODA's DWGDirect does? Well what they really do is Reverse engineering of Autodesk's RealDWG. The reality is Autodesk's RealDWG is constantly changing so ODA's DWGDirect is always a step or two behind.

HOW to test a product like Draftsight. Go here http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=12456726&linkID=9240618 Download some of the test files, that will give you a good idea of what is supported ;)
