You may want to create an offset curve to the inside from your original one, like this (also see attached 3DM file):
Then you can get a more predictable result by using that offset curve as the path for the array:
I also trimmed the offsets where they crossed each other at the bottom.
It tends to be easier to control the array along a curve when the path curve is more oriented down the centers of your objects.
Otherwise, if the object is a distance away from the curve, it is kind of like getting a longer length line shooting off to only one side of the curve, which kind of makes for more pronounced "swinging" when it is rotated when it travels along the curve.
Especially when you are going towards the inside where there will not be a lot of room, that kind of "wider swinging" of a path curve some distance away won't be so good.
