Burr

Was the trouble due to an "outage" or a power surge?

We have regular breakdowns in the power here but it never seems to cause a problem.

Have very good protection for power surges but, even so, always turn the computer off if thunderstorm activity about.

Burr, over here we can claim any damage done back to the power company.

Over here invariably after a power outage I get 15 friends call to say "My stuff quit, can you check it out". Cant go back to power co because you cant prove it was them. I have several UPS but after a few years you never know when it's just another box on the table not doing anything unless you test all the time. Seems I havnt been testing!

Went through all the hardware and concluded its most likly the motherboard. I never liked the asus anyway.

It's probably just a blessing in disguise! Its not the vid card so I can move that to the box that has the ati 7200 Radeon, and go get a new computer with some up to date specs.

I'll be boasting sooner than later! :o

I really have not heard of problems before through loss of power?
Apart from the power breakdowns, I regularly forget to shut the computer down before switching off the power.

I can't think that our having 240volt here would make a difference?

Hi Burr, kind of a bummer way to start out the new year!

Hopefully though your drive is fine, so that would mean no data loss at least and I guess you were talking a bit ago about when you were going to upgrade to a new machine? I guess the time has come now...

No worries of data loss. I'm pretty stickly on things I need to keep. My production machines dont house any data! Just the install.

I am running into the new phenomenon of optical disks failing due to the use of "Organic inks" as a writing surface. One thinks they have a good DVD backup or CD video and 2 months later.....Poof! Nothing.

Must......check....backups!!!! :)
