Hi Paul,

Yes you can run MoI on multiple machines, but what I think is best is to run it from a memory stick. This way what ever computer you plug it in to, it will promt you for your license code. You can put your code into a Word Pad document on the memory stick then cut and paste it when MoI prompts you to. It will only ask the first time on each computer.

Hope this helps.

Michael

Hello Michael,

Cool!. What is the size of MoI when installed on a stick ?. So did you run an installation with the target as the memory stick or how did you do it please.

Many thanks !

Paul

Hi Michael,

Actually if you want to bring it on a USB key with you, then also copy over the moi_v1_license.key file and you won't even have to do any copying and pasting.

When MoI starts up, it will check for that moi_v1_license.key file in the same folder as moi.exe is in, and if it finds it it will use that information and not prompt you.

Also if you want to bring along any customized settings, copy the moi.ini file over to the same folder, it works in a similar way.

Some more detailed instructions here:

Hi Paul,

Just 16 MB. That's actually including documentation, you can slim it down by 3MB less if you don't include the \docs folder.

Actually, all you do is do a normal install on your regular machine, then just copy the "C:\Program Files\MoI 1.0" folder over to a folder on your USB stick.

You can actually run the MoI.exe program directly off that USB stick when you go to another computer.

To bring over your settings, you need to copy over the moi.ini file which is in a slightly different location, also to avoid getting prompted for your license key you can also copy over the moi_v1_license.key file as well, some details on that here:

Hi Paul, back to your original question:

> one computer like Rhino.

Yes, MoI does not lock itself to one single computer, you can install it on multiple computers like your main machine and a laptop, stuff like that. Just as long as you're only actively running it on one machine at a time.

> Also, when will V2 of MoI likely to be released and what will be the cost ?

It will be a while, like maybe a year or so. Not really sure exactly. But beta versions will start to come out pretty soon, probably just a couple of weeks from now. The cost for v2 has not been set yet.

> - I assume it will not be upgrade price but rather the same price as V1 ??

There will definitely be an upgrade discount price for V1 owners, to be able to upgrade to v2 without paying the full v2 cost.

This is another reason I like MoI - very good license. I hate these draconian systems that treat you like a criminal. Every so often my Acrobat Pro decides that I've changed PC and wont work. I've long since used up all my activations so I have to phone them. They always get me going again but it's really annoying.

Sorry for the little rant. Back on-topic now.

Regards
Tony

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the info about the USB....very simple method indeed.

I will wait for a the V2 betas to roll out and see if it is a good companion to Rhino then I will most certainly support MoI and make a purchase!!

Thanks,

The only twist with that is that V2 betas will only be available to V1 owners, not as just a general public download like the trial version.

V2 is going to be very similar in a lot of ways to V1 though, I mean it will basically be V1 plus extra stuff. What I mean is you should be able to try the V1 trial right now to see if it would make a good companion for you or not.

Hi Michael,

I enjoy using MoI regardless which is already a good reason to invest and support what you are doing.

I'll continue to play around with this version until people start raving about V2 on this forum !! ;-)

Can I ask what are the main core differences with V2 ?

Cheers,
--Paul

Hi Paul,

Well, one major area will be some object organization tools, like stuff similar to layers, etc... That will probably be a focus starting with the second beta release.

For the first beta release one new thing is this object editing frame being discussed here: http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=1571.1

I'm not exactly sure of all the stuff that will be in v2 at the end yet.

Maybe something like 2 weeks for the first one? It is a bit hard to nail it down exactly though.
