Thanks for posting the link & example Phil. I've been looking at Non-Photorealistic Rendering packages lately, and I think you just saved me some money :)

What settings did you use in your Freestyle example?

I cannot remember exactly. I think it was polygon, Q01, and an edge one.

I've been experimenting with Freestyle ( thanks again Phil ! ).

I did not find a combination of settings to get the exact results I wanted, so I modified their "styles". Luckly you can change their settings - I don't understand the programming language so I just started changing parameters by trial & error :)

I was able to make the "sketch-like" result I was seeking. Paper background texture added in Paint Shop Pro.

I've attached the three Style Modules for this sketch effect:
cartoon.py
sketchy.py
guidingLinesFine.py

Hi Ed,

I like it.
I find it very interesting that such renderings can be made from a solid model.

It would be good if this could be combined into such as Blender, and have the result over a rendered image, it could certainly give some very good toon / cel type output.

I have made some renders (the program appears to have no problem with large imports), so I will look more at this (when time available)

Thanks to Phil for posting the link (very good find by you)

- Steve

Freestyle integration into Blender is one of this years Google Summer of Code projects. If it is completed, it will be very useful. I cannot wait.

Hey Phil, I like the ease of FreeStyle. Did not take too long to figure out, and it fits on the memory stick with MoI!

I know it's not cheap but I really feel Photoshop is about the very first main app that everyone should have. The "Basic" tool?

Hi Pilou,

Are you asking about the scene or individual objects within the scene? I am only appling them currently to the entire scene and not individual objects. I am still playing around with this software, but I'll try to let you know more, when I do(-:

I have seen the mention of layers (which would possibly have that), but have not had the time to look further or attempt. From that, I am not sure even if layers are yet added (or just a case of not explained). Certainly I do like this software, just little spare time to play.

I am hung up at how to create the StyleModule0.py as listed in the tutorial excerpt below:

[The ViewMap is now ready, we can write our Style Module. Let us create an empty file named "StyleModule0.py" in which we'll write our style module. Then, display the Style Modeler window using the Windows > "Style Modeler Window" menu item, and press the '+' button that opens a file browsing window. Load then the "StyleModule0.py" file. A line with the StyleModule0.py is now visible in the Style Modeler window. Double-click on this line to make the Editor appear. We'll write our Style Module using this editor. Any change made in the file can be saved using the "save" button.]

If I open the style modeler window, it is empty thus nothing to edit.
If I attempt to open a style it closes the program.
It appears I am locked out of the command line window that opens with freestyle

So any elaboration of the above paragraph from freestyle would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
David W.

Hi Guys,
Had a couple hours to spare, had a play with Freestyle and it's alot of fun.
I don't know where I would use it but it's fun, maybe for WIP, you can use it as a teaser instead of showing a MoI screenshot.

Anyhow here is my attempt for the time I had to play with it and I also made a short video tute to show how I achieved the results.
Video is in DivX format

Cheers
Danny
