There is also a little secret shortcut if you want to jump to view the last message in a thread - on the thread counter thing on the right side of the thread list that looks like this: [106] , the brackets are actually little links that jump straight to the first or last message in the thread. so click on the little ] to jump to the last message right away.

Hi Michael.
Thanks for adding the date in the tooltip and for the shortcut. I am used to more "traditional" forums, but I also like your search for originality, that probably is also the source of the many positive innovations in MoI.

Ciao

Antonino

< But I have made a change so that the date of the last message is now included in the tooltip that will display if you pause your mouse over a thread
There is no date for posts of the day, only hours: is that normal? :)

Hi Antonino - thanks! :)

Certainly tastes vary and really there is no one single design that is perfectly suitable to every different person...

Early on in the development of MoI I made a conscious decision to put "keeping with tradition" at a very low level of priority. It was kind of a risky decision in many ways but it tends to make development work a lot more interesting and fun (but unfortunately more difficult too!).

In some ways it is interesting because the wide variety between many different web sites seems to have made people more accepting of different designs these days, but then there seems to be a few areas like web discussion forums that have a kind of established tradition now themselves.

Hi Pilou,

The ones formatted like that mean the date was today. I think I can tune that up.

Hi Pilou, this is fixed now - the tooltip will always display the day and month, and for threads started on this same day it will also display the time of day. The year will be displayed only for years that don't match the current year.

So now you can use the tooltip as a clock if you are not sure what day it is today. ;)

Some other new forum stuff:

Improved message display - each message now has a nicer looking border and title section.

Automatic thumbnail generation for image attachments enabled. This will only be for new uploads from now, older uploads won't have thumbnails.

Cool!
No need to make the <img sr ="" :)
Something I don't understand : why the image don't open on a window directly inside the navigator?
Here that is on my computer on my desk or inside a 2D prog!

Hi Michael,

>>...each message now has a nicer looking border and title section

Yes, it looks really nice, except a background of the active thread title might inherit the same color and that "chemical" color of the bar at the top of the page as well...

>>Automatic thumbnail generation for image attachments enabled.

This only works if a user is logged in, though...

Hi Pilou,

> No need to make the <img sr ="" :)

Yup! This is now only necessary if you want to display the image full size inside of your message.

I am still going to see if I can make a better "insert image" helper in the message editor to make that easier though.

Right now all attachments are configured to work as a kind of file download. I'm going to experiment with this to see about opening the image in the browser instead.

Yup, I'm going to see about tuning those up a bit later today.

Thanks for reporting this, it is now fixed - guest users should now see the image attachment thumbnails as well.

> ps. that gnawed wooden rod is JoJo's piece of work? :)

:) Nope - she has not shown any interest in gnawing on that. Which is good because that is not wood, that is the tusk of a woolly mammoth.

She's generally pretty well behaved, there is just one corner of the couch which seems to be pretty delicious.

This should be fixed now. Now when you click on an image thumbnail, the image will open up with the browser instead of as a file download.

Other file types like .3dm files will still work as a download.

I see that images can now be clicked and open in new window! :)

Something i don't understand : when you make a little tut for Brian
there is images inside the text and the same images in thumbnail at the end of the post!
Seems there is twice different loading?

Hi Pilou,

> Something i don't understand : when you make a little tut for Brian
> there is images inside the text and the same images in thumbnail
> at the end of the post!

This was intentional, because I wanted to show the image inline in my mini tut - in some case like a tutorial it is nice to display the image right directly inside the text, instead of only having it as thumbnails at the very end of all text.

So for that post I used inserted <img> tags just the same as before.

Then the attachments for images now always show up at the end of a post as thumbnails, it doesn't matter if they are used inline in the message or not.

I was thinking it might not be a bad idea to detect if the image was used inline and if so just display it as an old-style plain text link in the attachments section instead of as a thumbnail...

> Seems there is twice different loading?

There is, but the thumbnails are small, it doesn't save a whole lot of load time to skip them. But I'm thinking it may be nice to skip them just because it looks a bit odd to see 2 of the same images displayed.

A couple of tuneups for attachments - the attachment dialog was slightly tweaked because it had a "complete" button which kind of looked like the button to push to do the upload which it wasn't. Switched that to a "Close" button and re-arranged the button order slightly.

Also now if an image is used inline in a message, it won't display as a thumbnail at the end and instead will be just a link in the regular non-thumbnail attachments list. This is so the image doesn't appear twice on the screen which kind of looks a little weird.

Slight tuneup for top blue nav bar to give it a gradient backdrop.
