Hi Brian.

Thats realy is looking great.

I must admit that I have been doing a Spit as well and found loads of problems with creating the wings and fuselage.
How did you get on with them?

I have not finished mine yet, as I have been doing another project. That is near competion now, so you have given me inspiration to finish mine.

It looks wery like my one, so perhaps it would interesting to compare them later on.

Keep Modelling.
Malc.

Sergiv. Thanks. I have the EnhanceC plugin for the Carrara Shader room so I have amost limitless variations I could make from that quick one I sellected.

Malc. I am amazed at how quick it all went. How did I do it? Really, I dont quite know! Basically its all loft and sweep. Trim, Boolean, Boolean cut etc. When things did not work I tried another way.
For example, the wing realy is a single piece. The shape around where it is at the hull, the top shape and the front shape. It was then mirrored.
In doing things that way, some minor, not quite true to drawings, shapes occur but I was happy to put up with that.

Later (today?) I need to go back on various items to rework them more accurately--which I can probably do from all the experiments I tried out yesterday.
I do an awefull lot of Incremental saving--it really is a great help when one makes so many mistakes.

I am used to woking in the likes of Hexagon. I just can not get over how simple and intuitive MoI is to use.
Brian

Next bit---trying to get a cleaner quality of the under the wing thingy.
All went well untill trying to get the nice curved front edge. It's great to see how MoI handles the "twists".
More fiddles to come. Obviously!

Hi
That's not a 'thing' its the air intake for oil or water cooling. Not sure which but early spitfires were asymmetrical as one was smaller and a different shape to the other. I'm planning a picture of a spitfire buzzing a garden party and have been experimenting with making 3d mock-ups of paintings so I can play with the light and composition. Any chance of one of you donating a model that I can use?

My pictures are here if you are interested: http://keith.jones61.googlepages.com

Brian

I must admit that I spent about a week creating my Spit. As I am semi-retired I get to spend a lot of time in the day (and night sometimes) fiddling with Moi, so the speed that you done yours is amazing.

I do admit to being a perfectionist, so attention to detail does take up a lot of my time, I only wish that I could say that will do!... sometimes.

Yes, I agree that MOI is the greatest modelling program since sliced bread was invented. I realy like it's simplicity, thats what makes it so attractive, compared to others.

Have posted a couple of attachments to see what you all think. Not quite finished but nearly there.

Best Wishes.
Malc.

Hi Kieth.
Just had a look at your site and I am very impressed, great work.

I would be happy to donate a Spit for your work. Would you need the 3dm file (when finished will be about 4 mb) or just an image file?.

Best Wishes.
Malc

Thanks for the complementary review:) I have cararra and mostly find that obj. files import best, but as I'm a bit of a newbie something else may be better. You could of course send a MoI file and I could do some shading. The trouble with an image file is it restricts the composition to a single point of view. I have downloaded some from google and am contemplating a matte picture (or whatever its called).
Thanks again the spitfire
Keith

You are all too clever for an old bloke like me!
I guess, like the oil cooler "thingys", I need to play with the props a bit more still--as you can see by the attached.
Keeps me off the streets I guess!

More work on the prop.
Technically probably way out, but I think I covered many of the design principles, at least, in this learning exercise.

Nice thread guys. Like to see exchanges of work like this. It helps me to learn things.

The Spitfire is very, very nice Malc.

Me too and for the same reason! I got into the habit using truespace because it crashed a *lot*, particularly when doing difficult booleans. Now I do the same for when I "crash" :)

I haven't had a single crash in MoI. Michael certainly knows how to write stable code!

I think this is as good as I am likely to do the props from a basis of not knowing what I am really doing!!
