I'm using the v5 beta and could have sworn that I read somewhere it supported file preview in MacOS.

Am I going mad?

Hi James, yes thumbnails in finder windows is supported in MoI v5.

Check that it hasn't been turned off in MOI under Options > Import/Export > 3DM options > "Write thumbnail preview image" checkbox.

Also you may need to enable the extension in macOS System Settings, under under General > "Login Items & Extensions". There should be an entry there for the v5 app and when you click the circle with an "i" in it there should be a switch that you can turn on.

it doesn't work for me at all (files saved with v4 or v5beta).

Yes saving the embedded thumbnail image is new in version 5.

3DM Files saved with version 4 won't have that.

What version of macOS are you using?

Do you have other programs installed that also handle .3dm files?

Hi,

I'm on Tahoe 26.6.2.

Installed are:
MOI v4
MOI v5 beta
Trice (viewer only)

I have have just deleted it. Nothing has changed so I will also re-install MOI and see what happens. Will report back



edit: Made no difference.

By the way, this is the command I needed to run the app:
"sudo xattr -cr /Applications/MoI\ v5\ beta\ Apr-27-2026.app"
