Did you have tested the ReconstructCurve script ?

Two ways to use it, but I think you could use it by launch it, choose your line and the PolyLine method.
The result is a polyline with your choosen number of parts.

If you select your line and next launch ReconstructCurve, you will have a soft curve with your choosen number of parts.

To find This script, you can search in Ressources of the site.

But it seems to me that with DashCurve you can divide a curve or a line into segments of equal length, by setting the spacing to 0
