What is exactely "Keep geometry" ?

Can we have an option for have a "solid section" even the section is empty ?

Like for a tichkness sphere ?

and I'll experiment with showing a point in the viewport maybe if you drag that you can get snaps.

It's because the object is malformed by a bug in the shell command in the current v5 beta when making a shell with an internal void.

When you use shell set Library = "Solids++" for right now or select a face to make an opening.

The attached file should work ok.

From my personal try the Shell section is working fine with the Solid ++ and no way with the acis ! (for a simple cube)

In the updated version at the top of this thread, you can type in a percentage or
press the small "point" button to pick a point as alternate ways to position the
section in addition to the slider.

YES! You're a beautiful man, Michael Gibson. Hopefully everyone gets an efficiency kick out of this!

I'm yet to give it some decent hard testing on the job but looks great so far I'll keep on it!

Use the point icon to select a snap point from your model. Your section view will then be in perfect alignment with the point selected.

When you push that you can then pick a point on the model and the section cutting plane will pass through that point.

Here is an example using that option to make the plane pass directly through a corner on the model:

Hi Martin, thank you very much for your feedback! :)

It turned out that I had a good space to include those controls after moving the slider to its own line.

That adds a lot of flexibility being able to use one tool for both visual analysis and also geometry construction.

I'm thinking maybe it could get an icon on the View tab in the side pane, what do you think? CPlane is there and seems related.

Adding an icon to the tool palette would be the cherry on the cake as far as I'm concerned and I can't think of a better place than the one you suggested, so it's a thumbs up from me.

EDIT: This tool is also useful for creating new planes. Just create the sections as required under 'Section plane', tick 'Keep geometry', followed by 'Done' and then use the CPlane tool on this geometry. If you now press the 'Undo' button, then your solid comes back, but the CPlane stays in its new position. ;-)

Very impressive function.
I don't know how I will use it and exploit this potential but I will find...

I have questions :

When I select a surface of a solid or joinedSurf and use "Section", MoI respond "Select solids to section". --- > Normal

When I select a curve and use "Section", MoI respond "Select solids to section". --- > Normal

When I select a lonely single surface and use "Section", MoI respond with an error :

TypeError: undefined is not an object (evaluating 'bbox.center.x')
Section.js line 87
MoI avoid the view of the surface (not deleted but not visible since moved or save/reload.

Is it possible that MoI respond with "Select solids to section"

And when I use "Section" on a joined surface, the result could be strange because MoI have problems to know how to cut.
Perhaps could You limit the use of Secition only on solid and deny all other type of objects ?

Thanks for the section command. It is a useful tool indeed. Often, I find myself drawing a straight line in one of the parallel views, then using that line to generate a projected curve on my objects for cutting faces or detailing. This requires some trial and error to get the best result.

I am wondering if it is possible to have the "Section Plane" outlines generate pseudo-projected lines on objects, as these results are much cleaner than standard projected lines. I believe an "outline" mode would be a great fit for this command.

Additionally, if you agree that an "outline" mode would be beneficial, it would be useful to have a way to retain both the object and the section outputs, as they can be used to construct curves for further modeling.
options such as: [None, Keep Section Geometry, Keep All].
