Dear forum.

I wish to convert a STL file to a 3dm file to open in MoI but all online converters only give me v6 files- which I can't open in the current version of MoI.

I know there is a free translator available called Rh3dmConverter that some clever bod has very kindly written but alas it only works on Windows.

There is a converter for Mac for Food for Rhino, but every time I land on the page my browser greys the screen and I can't download.

Any suggestions?

PS, and OT I'm now quite excited as I can finally afford to buy a seat of MoI3D which I will do later today!

Hi Tom, an STL file only contains triangle mesh data, not CAD surfaces and solid data.

Probably the STL converter will generate a polygon mesh object in the Rhino file, and MOI will not read those types of objects.

There is a converter for 3DM Rhino v6 to Rhino v5 converter available here (both Windows and Mac):

But I think that is only one part of the problem, you will still have the problem that an STL file only contains polygons in it and not structured CAD data like spheres, cylinders, and smooth surfaces.
