Admittedly, I had entertained the idea of cracking - though:

A.) I'd put the kibosh on the idea after thinking it through, and:
B.) it woulda been for personal use anyway had I cracked it,

so there's that.

That said, my line of thinking often goes toward "can it be done" more than "should it be done" and "what are the repercussions thereof" - hence my asking in the first place.

Further question: is there (at minimum) one more beta build after this, or is V5's public release the next release?

(also, will V5 be the same price as V4 when it releases?)

Funny enough, I still have an EDU key.

Tom Meeks (who's made a few tutorials for MoI, and who I've personally worked with) was able to secure some for the Youthquest Foundation - and I was among the lucky folks who got to work with him. Even after his organization merged with the school I attended, PHILLIPS Programs (private school for special needs kids like me), and even after graduating three years ago, I still have the EDU V4 key I was provided... though I'm likely gonna buy the standard key, since I'm not in school any more, and thus, using the EDU key would be quite imprudent.

Actually it isn't a problem - you can use your EDU license key for any kind of work, it is not restricted.

I use V4 after having upgraded from V3. As such, I don't have a V4 license; only a v3. Is there any way that I can access the V5 beta or would I need to purchase a new license for V4?

Hi Rio, you can use the v5 beta with any version 4 license including a v4 upgrade license.

You can put in your v4 upgrade license which starts with VER4UPG into the license key field at https://moi3d.com/beta.htm .

Hi all,
I decided to try MOI v5 and I migrated my settings by copy appdata and ui folders from v4 to C:\Program Files\MoI 5.0 beta Feb-8-2025.

Most of my settings are there, along with scripts and so on, but I cannot change the axes color as seen on the picture.
No matter the color I chose, axes stay the same (grey).

I can change other settings, like UI size.

Can you please advise?

Hi Mr. Yuri, in v5 the Grid options has an additional setting:





If you copied the v4 UI folder over to the v5 install you'll be missing all the UI changes from v5.

If you have made your own changes in files in the v4 \ui folder, you'll need to merge those changes into the v5 UI instead of just copying the v4 file into v5.

I can help you do that if you .zip up your v4 UI folder and attach it here.

I also noticed that MoI5 doesn't remember my recent files.

When I start after closing and click "File" I don't see my recent files.
Also meshing options (resolution of STL exports) is not remembered.
V4 remembered those.

Looks like "something" is read only.

That most likely means that the moi.ini file is read-only.

You can see the location of the moi.ini file by going to Options > General and push the "Edit .ini file" button.

That will show a dialog window with the path to the moi.ini file here:

Hi Juraj, thanks for sending your v4 ui folder.

You don't have any modified files there from the default v4 install, so you don't need anything to be updated there.

Do a new install of v5 and just leave v5's ui folder alone, do not copy the v4 ui folder into the v5 install.

Then your Options > Grid should show the "From theme" or "Custom" options, set it to "Custom".

Hi Michael,

actually, the read-only attribute was the first I tried (sorry not to mention at first) and that is not the blocker.

I restored original MOIv5 program files folder, because Ihad backup :)
so it looks good and moi is remembering files and settings.

However, I had some custom scripts, commands and settings.
Some of them were .ini file modifications guys here (and you) in forum advised me over the years.

Can you please advise on how to transfer those to v5 and not to cause trouble?

Probably the easiest way is to have both v4 and v5 use the same moi.ini file located in %AppData%\Moi\moi.ini .

That's how it is set up by default.

Is there a specific reason why you have set up a moi.ini file and an appdata folder underneath the install folder in c:\Program Files ?

Is it that you want v4 and v5 to have different settings from each other?

Can you also show the moi.ini location for v4 (in v4 also go to Options > General > "Edit .ini file" button).

Having the moi.ini file located under c:\Program Files is also probably what causes it to be read only - programs running with normal privileges are blocked by the OS from modifying files under c:\Program Files\ . That mechanism is separate from the "Read only" flag in file properties. If you edit the shortcut you use to launch MoI and set the checkbox for "Run as Administrator" then it shouldn't be blocked from writing.

- I had all in v4 folder so it would be portable. I got that somewhere here in the forum as I wanted to use MoI on my other computer with same configuration. I would like to have same flexibility with v5. I believe it's not against license terms (it's used only by me, no other user).

- I understand. Putting ini file in user appdata solved the issue.

However, I tried to copy some stuff around into appdata, but I cannot get my plugins/addons (whatever they are called - on the picture) to display in v5.
I have some useful stuff there along with object library that I use very often.
With v4, I had all in one folder, portable program which was super easy to backup with complete custom configuration and objects.
