Hi all,

Not really new to MOI but i'm struggling to get this done
See attachment
I want this Bird Like surface extruded according the normals so i have the same "thickness" everywhere.

What is the right way to go ??

Thanks in advance.

Rik

Hi Rik, creating a new surface by displacement along surface normals (as opposed to a single overall direction like Extrude) is done with the Construct > Offset command.

You can also use Construct > Offset > Shell which will also construct side walls.

If your surface is kind of wiggly though an offset can be problematic since wiggles will get magnified.

If you could post a .3dm file with your surface in it, that could help to give other advice.

Hi Rik, it would probably be better to not try and bake in the rounding at the tips into the initial surface construction.

If you make sharp corners that helps improve surface quality, when curves change a lot in a small area that can tend to cause stressed surfaces with buckling.

So more like this attached version.

Then use a fillet at the end to round those edges.

Hi Pilou,

re:

I selected the curves and used Construct > Network to make the surface, and then Construct > Offset > Shell.
