Hi Peer, sorry no currently there isn't a way to disable auto place mode other than having the profiles inside the rail's bounding box.

Depending on what you are doing you could maybe offset the rail curve so it is next to the profile instead of away from it.

Yes I have been working around auto-place by offsetting the rail, but that only succeeds when the rail is planar I think.
