I find MOI3D's ui much more user friendly then Plasticity.

Yeah, I recently bought Plasticity after reading all the hype, and while it certainly has potential, and is quite forgiving when filleting difficult edge scenarios, MoI's UI and UX is unequalled.

In fact, toying with Plasticity made me return to MoI, and rediscover and re-appreciate it, and its always sympathetic community.

Have you played with version 1.4? They just added more CAD type features, especially editing dimensions.

Not yet. I've got 1.3.9 installed at the moment.

I just like MoI's ease of use more, creating objects with minimal effort. Somehow, Plasticity feels less accessible, maybe because I really like to use curves and curve shapes as a base for modeling solids, and that's so pleasantly easy in MoI.

I guess I'll keep Plasticity for difficult filleting scenarios, although having the choice between two kernels in MoI V5 gets filleting jobs done most of the time.

Also, I miss the realtime interactive history and the non-destructive mirroring of MoI.

Having tried plasticity, I can say one thing - there are literally several functions in which plasticity is superior to MOI3D. That's all. Otherwise, this is a very crude, unfriendly and inconvenient product to use.
Sorry, I didn’t want to offend anyone, but MOI3D has been the most convenient, understandable and amazing product for me for many years.

MOI is the easiest to learn 3D modeling app I have every used. Love MOi3D. Only wish there were more youtube tutorials with audio narration on automotive modeling.
I find videos with out audio narration too difficult to follow. Perhaps it has more to do with my age (70 yrs old) and aging vision.

I have used the demo of Plasticity, but found it's ui very confusing. But it does have some interesting features.

I am trying to find video tutorials of modeling cars with MOI3D AND NOT images of cars modeled with MOI3D.

I've seen plenty of images but there are hardly any videos WITH AUDIO NARRATION.

There are some video tutorials but they DO NOT have NARRATION, only CAPTIONS which I find very difficult to follow. One eye can not follow the mouse and the other eye follow the CAPTIONED text This is a very difficult task for me with my 70 year old eyes which are not as sharp as they were when I was in my 20s or 30s.

It's much easier to have both eyes on the video and both ears listen to the audio.

Cheers and thanks...

Plasticity is definitely on my to buy list.
For what I do Moi is used probably 95% of the time in addition to other software.

For instance I use Vectric vcarve and it has its drawing tools...but I draw in Moi and then send to vcarve since it is way faster for me.
One thing I wish Moi had is a distort tool > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-94OrLae_nY

Hi Matadem,

How is Distort different from using Flow like Michael suggested?

https://moi3d.com/forum/messages.php?webtag=MOI&msg=10114.453

If you want more than 4 control points you can do that by first drawing a grid of lines and then select the lines and do Construct > Network to make a plane. If you select the resulting plane and do Edit > "Show pts" you'll see the control points that you can then drag.

Is the problem that the result doesn't update in real time while you're dragging points?

Hi Matadem,

You can get the real-time distortion now by turning on History updating on the result of Flow. Be sure to do this immediately after doing Flow since even a tiny edit on any of the objects involved in Flow, like moving a point, will prevent history from working.

Select the objects resulting from Flow and then do Edit > History > "Enable update".

When you move edit points of the target point you should see distortion updating in real time.

History updating is turned on by default for some commands, but not for Flow. That's why you have to turn it on manually.

I'm going to give my 2 cents here. For better or worse.

There is no software that allows me to create as fast as Moi3D. Michaels approach of finding a new approach and thinking in terms of user experience is why I finally was able to quickly create props and models without having to hand wring about edge flow and edge loops. Nothing hampers creativity than worrying about topology. I have purchased licenses for teams of artists creating previs assets for AAA videogames, all of whom now love Moi3D as much as I do.

This is me: https://www.artstation.com/calxdesign and http://calx.uk

Competition is what moves things forward and keeps us on our toes. The UI for Moi3D is something you barely see once you know what you're doing but if users are going to take software seriously, then it needs to look like you care.

And Moi3D looks like you don't care. It looks like you were first and don't have to.

Moi3D WAS first, but it's 2026.

Plasticity has offered a modern UI, and from what I gather is entirely misunderstood in terms of why it's gathering traction. The UI isn't required, fillets are removable and Booleans are movable, and it doesn't look like a hobby. That's enough.

Has Michaels work been built upon?
Yes.

Has Michaels work been plagiarised?
Maybe, I don't know, I'm not a lawyer.

Should it have been expected?
Yes. Absolutely.

"Let's make that Moi3D but polish the living daylights out of it and have a really slick UI and turn what he's done up to 11 and get it in front of all the YouTube influencers"

How did nobody see that coming?

I started with VU3D, then PovRay/PovCad, then 3D Studio, 3dsMAX, Rhino (YESSSS), Soft3D, XSI ... eventually Houdini for all my "geo" work, but I have never loved a piece of software as much as Moi3D, someone finally udnerstand how few fucks I give about topology when i just want to make a thing.

I'm starting to open Plasticity to get stuff done with a heavy heart because it's forward facing, not resting on it's laurels.

UI matters, UX matters. Broken Window Theory is absolutely real.

UX in NOT making things high contrast and VERY CLEAR in a big font, that's just accessibility.

I will be first in line for what comes next from Michael, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to make, not worry about QUADS.

D.

@calx

Fillets are removable in v5 using RemoveAndFill (right click the Delete button). Faces resulting from booleans can be moved and rotated. The UI has never been required. Perhaps it's you who hasn't kept up with MoI rather than the other way around.

If what you care about is lots of black, no icons, and ALL CAPS you can do that in MoI. Check out the theme editor for a start. MoI can be customized more thoroughly than any other software I've encountered. I encourage you to transform your version of MoI into the mockup you show in order to gain some appreciation for just how well-designed the stock UI is.

Frankly, your post reads as a crude insult.
