Thanks - that worked and Davinci Resolve seems happier, but it's not very intuitive - perhaps when exporting FBX Moi3D can detect this situation and ask if the user wants unique names?

That would probably be kind of weird, I doubt I would be able to detect this situation automatically since it depends on the behavior of the particular app that you are exporting into.

The main way to improve this is probably to preserve the parent/child hierarchy in the STEP file with groups in MoI. But groups are new in MOI v5 and it will be a while before they percolate into import/export .
