Hi David, also one reason for the glitchy surface is the curves have fairly different shaping where they come together.
What I mean is this curve is flat where it ends:
While the center curve has a tight bend hook where it ends:
It will be difficult for these different shapes to combine together well.
So if you did want to try and surface directly, not having that hook would help and also it can be good in collapsing areas to include a kind of circular like profile before the touching point so that there will be roughly equal lengths before they come together.
