Cool! (Acis) Solid++ fails

But there is a secret! ;) Rotate the cylinder before the Boolean Union!

Hi Pilou, with ACIS fillets you can do it without rotating the cylinder if you do it in 2 separate chunks:

I'm not sure exactly why yet.

Maybe I need to mark the vertex at the collapsing point to not attempt to be smoothed there.

Also in some cases it can help to not try to include already smooth edges as fillet targets.

Thanks for the new Beta Michael!

I like how you've set up the Hatch for AI export, creating hatch groups per/face and sub-groups for min & max. :)

Thanks Dan, I hope that can be useful for getting a different illustration feel.

The exported grid is fantastic, I've been wondering for some time if it was possible to export the surfaces in mesh but using the nurbs patch topology, i.e. export the grid of nurbs patches in mesh.

Another thing seem more responsive in my case with Linux!
Greetings

The ACIS fillet does not seem to apply to 2D object comprised of closed curves???

ACIS fillet applies to a Solid.

ACIS fillet seems to apply to an extruded object, even if it is not a solid.???

Hi Brian, ACIS works with surfaces and solids but with curve is useless.

Hi Brian,

re:

Yes that's correct, there isn't anything different for curve filleting, the new stuff is for edge based filleting.

> ACIS fillet seems to apply to an extruded object, even if it is not a solid.???

It can be a solid or a joined surface.

Hi pafurijaz,

re:

Do you mean the new cross hatching for 2D drawings?

I'd love to see some examples if you're using it.

> Another thing seem more responsive in my case with Linux!

There were a couple of improvements for running on Wine.

Thanks, - Michael

It seems there are things that the Solids++ fillet can do that the ACIS can't. Will it be sticking around?

Solids ++:

ACIS (will not calculate):

Even doing the edges separately with ACIS does not result in correct fillet.

Also not sure if you just aren't supposed to select a surface to fillet, but with ACIS it leaves a visual gap when do so:

Hi Charlie,

Could you post your file ?
It could help Michael to find the probem.

It seems the base has both all edges of your cylinder and all edges of the box.

Dear Micheal Gibson,

First of all, thank you for adding these new features to 3DMoi. ACIS Fillets are fantastic and work better on solids.

Hope to continue making improvements and add more commands to make 3DMoi the best product made so far with easy to use.

I would like you to do something better when calling script commands in better ways to reach them more quickly and efficiently.

Thank you so much.

Works with 0,5 radius ...with little error on your model...

but not on other models...but curiously we must also take 0.5 maxi!
here the seams is deported...

Michael,

Congratulations on the latest BETA! I can't wait to dive into the new features! Even having SharkCAD Pro and Rhino3D, Moi has now become my go-to application for my 3D designs. The power and simplicity are perfectly integrated! And it makes concepting and turn-around super fast!

One question: on the Scene browser assignment list, is it/would it be possible to make this a right-click instead of a left-click, keeping the existing behavior (click-assign)? After getting so used to the way Moi handled these object assignments in the past, seeing the menu pop up on a simple click feels a bit jarring. Great concept, but would it be possible to use right-click, even if just as an option? (Or is it perhaps changeable via a script?)

Thanks!!
jdb

On another note: Is there a way to change the dialog font size (seem too large for my display)? I have found where to change the UI fonts (made them smaller), but I am probably missing something... Thanks again!

Hi Pilou,

re:
> Acis works but only one by one...does this normal ?

It will work if you select all the edges coming off that central point instead of only some of them.

With a mix of some edges not being filleted combined with mixed convexity that might be a difficult corner configuration.

So that might be normal I'm not entirely sure. I have observed other situations where doing some fillets individually can succeed in ACIS but I don't know yet if this is a limitation of ACIS or if it's caused by something I'm doing when transferring geometry over to it.

Thanks,
- Michael

Hi Charlie, thanks for testing the fillets.

> It seems there are things that the Solids++ fillet can do that the ACIS can't. Will it be sticking around?

Yes, the switch between fillet libraries will be staying for quite a while.

There are some cases where Solids++ can generate a fillet where ACIS can't, mainly on things where the fillet is trying to go around a bend that is smaller than the fillet radius. Solids++ can slice out that self intersecting fillet area if it's not too complicated, but ACIS won't do those cases.

But your case here looks more like a bug in MoI's conversion to and from ACIS geometry, that is an area that I'm still actively working on. I'll add your file to my list to test with.

With the attached version I replaced 2 of the planes and it's working ok on this one.

- Michael
