Google of "cad undercuts display"

An undercut is a design feature that interferes with the ejection of a molded part from the mold. An undercut can include features such as holes or boses that are not aligned with the direction of ejection, threaded sections, and snap fingers.

For a rotary shaft with an "undercut", a keyway,
this link has 3 good points:
1. Illustrate as a cross-section...
2. Never dimension to hidden lines.
3. The axis should be drawn so everyone can tell at a first glance. (Whatever that means?)
4. Dimension key cuts as a diameter of the shaft, from the bottom of the cut to the "other side" of the shaft, not as a depth of the cut.

So to clarify my understanding, the Sillouette result depends on the View, or cplane view "direction". And this direction corresponds to a "pull direction" that would be impeded, for a mold to form the object would use, to release the object? So a different pull direction would be needed, to release the object? Or the object might need to be cut into different sections?

Hi Brian,

re:

Yes it's the view direction. Except for if you use the 3D view and it's a perspective projection. In that situation it traces a silhouette based on the projection of a point in 3D space towards the camera/eye point.

Correct.

I think usually it means the object needs to be modified so that it doesn't have an undercut like that.
