Hi Peer, can you please post the model file so I can test things?

But It may be difficult to avoid that happening with standalone curves that are very close to the surface. Curves are pulled forward a little bit so that curves that are right on surfaces will get displayed instead of possibly being hidden.

You may see a difference if the curves were embedded into the surface by trimming them instead of being separate objects.

Michael,

Thank you for your rapid reply. See attached. I found that fragments are longest when viewing the planar face along normal (though difficult to see at this angle) and shortest when viewed at grazing incidence to the planar face.

I'll try trim on Monday.

Hi Peer, I think you'll get some better results if you scale up your object, say like 10 times.

That will get it more in the size range that the hidden line remover is calibrated for and should help avoid those pieces getting pulled up.

To scale it, select everything and run Transform > Scale. At the first prompt for the scale origin type 0 and push Enter to specify 0,0,0 as the scale origin. At the next prompt type in 10 and push Enter to specify a scale factor of 10x.

Here's the result from that with a canvas resolution of 60, here showing a PDF displayed by Adobe reader:

Michael,

That looks perfect. I'm relieved that I won't have to go the trim route. Can't wait to try out hidden line removal at the proper scale.
