Hi Tony, something that's all melty looking is often a good candidate for Sub-d modeling instead of NURBS modeling. That might be an easier way.

Are Rhino and MoI similar enough that Rhino tutorials can be used to understand the general approach to modeling in MoI?

Usually yes that's the case. Some things like fancy surface modeling for cars may not be applicable if they focus on tools like MatchSrf which MoI does not have as of yet.

But for things built with regular construction tools the Rhino tutorial will usually be applicable.

I agree with Michael. Any type of branching structure in NURBs is difficult.

I modeled this faucet and handle 100% in MoI using Max's SubD scripts. The faucet aerator and ball below the handle are NURBs objects.

I started building the faucet base by Extruding a 6-sided polygon in the vertical direction (Don't cap the ends), then added Splits. I extruded another 6-sided polygon in the horizontal direction (Don't cap the ends), and added Splits for the spout. I deleted 2 quads in the base (leaving 6 open edges), then patched in the spout using Lofts (Straight / Exact option). Next I performed Lofts to cap off the top of the base and the end of the spout. Then I Joined everything and turned on Show Points. From there it's a process of adding Splits and manipulating points (Vertices) to obtain the shapes you want (Alignment & Rotate tools work well here). Final step is to perform SubD to make everything smooth.
