I had tried rotating the circle as Pilou suggested but it does not work.

Barry,

Brian has already provided you with a universal solution for all point cases.
However when working in 2D on the ground plane, it is not necessary to concern yourself with point rotational data,
hence the Rx, Ry, & Rz outputs need not be connected to ptExt node "angle" inputs, indeed it would suffice to use regular points/point node.
Also Basic/Extract nodes could be used instead of splitPts node, since the only required data outputs are x & y data.

Tricky!
A always find the good Node "color input" to "color Output" is the more difficult when you have not daily practice!
