Ha.... the old shag carpet in my house in '71 laid pretty much flat like that....

But for most carpet, i would probably look for a "half way or less" bend... that would come at the "randomize" point...

But really now.... Michaels answer here is really the answer....

You'll end up needing Pixar's render farm just to visualize the carpet...

Pixar made a kids movie called cars. In it was a single scene that only lasted for a few seconds. The car and its love interest stared out over a beautiful mountain scape.

Each frame of the scene took 72 hours on pixars render farm. A massive building full of the highest end computer power.. 24 frames a second. 4 or 5 seconds or so...

People get nuts about stuff....

There are various 3d carpets online to buy .... I thought it was easier to make it .... obviously it is not so :)
