Hi,
Being new to MOI (and loving it) I have a small suggestion.
First of I name all my objects and that is essential to the suggestion. If that is not common practice my suggest may appear foolish.
When exporting to an STL (for 3D printing) I copy that name from the "details" dialog and use it for the file name.
IF there isn't already a way to make this automatic I suggest it would be convenient, save a bit of time and improve consistency between internal and "external" naming.
Thanks.

Hi Frederick, so just to make sure I understand correctly you're using the File > Export command in MoI to export one selected object at a time out to an .stl file is that right?

Hi,
Yes that is what I am doing.
My previous design tool was OpenSCAD and I generally just modeled one object at a time. And the model file name was used by OpenSCAD when it created the STL file so there was a one-to-one match up of model name to STL file name.
However, MOI is just so incredibly intuitive that I decided to tackle a much bigger project - modeling an entire printer.
Since I was able to name each object I kept the same approach of creating the STL file using the object name.
I've tried out many design tools, over the years, but MOI is, by far, the most productive tool I have ever used.
You have done a FANTASTIC job. Great work.
The only things I miss from OpenSCAD are the "Customizer" and the very basic ability to animate the models.

Thanks Frederick, I'm really glad that MoI is useful for you!
For the export using object name, please try replacing the standard Export.js file in the install's commands folder with the attached one. Hope that does what you were looking for.
Thanks, - Michael

Hi,
That is just brilliant. As I said I am new to MOI. Thus I haven't had an occasion to look "behind the scenes" before.
It works exactly as I envisioned.
Thanks VERY much.

For a very basic (?) free animation you can use inside Moi Elephant! (by Max Smirnov) ;)
Following by r2d3 (?)
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=7777.799
You can use it directly without any code with any objects and path the r2d3 master piece!

Or simply animation of Commands ;)
Look at my repository for some ideas :) English / French

For a more elaborated exterior aspect + materials, wind, vegetation, ocean, seasons etc...but not more for the basic animation (Only along a path)
try the free TwinMotion! I hope that you can load it because November is the dead line but i don't now if it's start or begin month!

Hi,
I forgot to mention that the new export process always reverts to using the MOI installation folder as the destination.
That is perhaps not what it should do.

Hi,
Thanks for the information on animation.
The "elephant" looks like what I was thinking of.
I was a bit confused as to what I was supposed to download and install.
Can you clarify that for me?
Thanks!

It looks like this is something that needs to be tuned up in the file dialog, it doesn't initialize to the last used folder if a file name is provided. But when the file name does not include a full path it should use the last used folder. I'll see about getting that fixed for the next v4 beta.
Thanks, - Michael
