Finally the new 2.0 version of the super powerful Thea Render is ready!
I have used extensively the current version (1.5) of Thea to render my Moi's model and it was a piece of cake with my overclocked Gtx 1080Ti...
Ultrafast quasi-photorealistic GPU+CPU render engine (Presto engine).
i'm a licensed user as well, but i can't test it because i don't see Thea Studio standalone
(or Blender plug-in) for purchase... Hope they made also a new UI, because the 1.5 one
looked a bit childish (the icons), compared to Maxwell...
Did the viewport received also an update, so that you can easily navigate millions of
polygons?
Actually it seems that they've upgraded only the plug-ins versions for SketchUp, Rhino, Cinema 4D.
No Standalone for the moment...
But I've sent an email to the support just to ask all the details of this upgrade.
I'm interested in the Standalone version...
I've also a commercial license of Rhino v5 but I asked them if this new Thea 2.0 can work with V5 or it needs Rhino v6.
I hope this is not the case, because I don't want to buy the upgrade to Rhino V6 :)
Thanks!
...obviously an amazing product...nothing to say about that...
But for me it's not good for two reasons:
1) It costs so much...so much :)
2) NO GPU engine!! You must have a very powerful CPU-based machine with many cores. Maybe some powerful XEON processor...with a capable MOB and RAM of course...
Very expensive machine...
Instead I have invested in a (commercial) but powerful GPU (Gtx 1080 Ti) so KeyShot is out of my horizon...
Hmmm...no good news for me from the Thea team at the moment.
In short:
1 - Unfortunately, Thea for Rhino v2.0 will not be available for Rhino 5.
2 - Only with Rhino V6, Cinema 4D and SketchUp plugins
3 - No stand alone version.
But the biggest problem for me is the lack of support for Rhino V5.
I don't want to buy Rhino V6 upgrade...It costs too much.
Anyway, this is their reply.
"Dear Marco,
Thea Studio v2.0 will not be available for purchase. Instead, we have worked on a brand new product that will take its place with an enhanced user interface and workflow, utilizing Thea Render v2.0 core technology. An announcement will be made once the release date of the new product is definite.
Unfortunately, Thea for Rhino v2.0 will not be available for Rhino 5.
The 1080Ti is being supported by Thea and the new engine has lots of performance optimizations.
Please let me know if you have any other question.
have you ever tried Arion Standalone? Arion has also GPU support and produces
image quality like Maxwell and the standalone is only 195 €. I had purchased it
many years ago if they had an OS X version...
And there's always the great alternative of Blender!!!
Don't forget Blender... :)
Ok...its Cycles engine is not the fastest (also with GPU) and it suffers a little bit too much of graining, also with the denoising filter, but...wow...it's free and it has tons, tons of features!!
And the 2.8 is near...
Well...the truth is that I can't take it anymore of complex and messy UI...with super tiny buttons and labels, and with really bad UX and color palettes...
This is one of the reason why I'm in love with Procreate on iPad Pro.
Minimalist and fully immersive UI with a superb UX :)
This is hilarious. I told the people at Altair that they needed a decent UX for the next generation of TR and they decided to listen to a bunch of hysterical fanboys without a shred of UXD experience instead to drive the product design.
That forum and company is now a dumpster fire, I can't see myself sticking around for the new studio version given the history of poor decisions they are making.
I'm sticking with 1.5 until I do a proper evaluation of alternatives because the plugins I use in Rhino v5 way more valuable to my workflow than T4R 2 working only on version Rhino v6, also a lame duck release.
I'm checking out some alternatives over the coming weeks, hopefully something will turn up that integrates well.
I agree with you!
It’s really bad to see that the SUPERB rendering engine writtem by the former Thea’s team, has been “wrapped” by such a poor and obsolete UI.
Actually the version 1.5, with its “Presto” engine, coupled with a powerful GPU, like a Gtx 1080 Ti (or 2 or 4 of them) or with a Quadro P5000, is still the the fastest quasi-photorealistic rendering engine of the consumer market, so I’ll stick with it.
For sure I'm not buying the upgrade to 2.0 nor the V6 of Rhino...
And also...for the moment...log live to Blender :)
Hi everyone, for years I have been following every render engine that has been released in the last 20 years, now all are based on the same algorithms of the famous PBR book, with recent variations .. I believe that the solution is always subjective. The market offers everything. I just want to remind you that there exists besides my beloved Blender also Indigo from which many have been inspired and many have given their contribution, naturally, within a certain time Eevee will have to go out, surely a novelty expected by many.
