Hi James,

have you been a Punk in the seventies, like me, because of the title? ;-)

Here I pace 3d objects with max's V Scripts.

Hi James,

now that is really cool, bravo! I had to look twice to find the "pole" areas... :-)

P.S. Googling for example for Goldberg spheres i figured out that i did those long time ago
with MoI and my MoI model is the first image. :-)

I think i make a flat surface only version, with colors.

Hello everyone!

WOW! ...what a wonderful things!!

Yes...Max's V Scripts "family" are really awesome!!
I have used them some year ago for the first time and they help me a lot in many situations!

Hi all,

my Goldberg (1,4) sphere re-modeled. Render maybe follows later.

Hi Stefan,

Beautifully done!
Can you please outline the steps to achieve this result.

Much appreciated
James

Hi James,

thanks. Sure, i will show the steps required to create Goldberg spheres with MoI when i come home this afternoon,
because it requires addional free software and i don't have currently the link (and other infos) handy.
I hope i can do so around 16-17 pm CET.

Stefan

Thanks Mik.

Hi James,

a small tut, with no pictures, but i hope
it is easy to understand.

Quote user genna87 from Reddit posting:

"With Antiprism you can generate any Goldberg polyhedron:

geodesic -c m,n ico | pol_recip | canonical | off_util -g | off2obj > /path/to/file.obj

m,n is the desired class ( eg: 4,0 )"

http://antiprism.com

I used for m,n = 1,4 like shown in Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldberg_polyhedron

Once you have the polyhedron import it with obj import script
and then create a slightly smaller solid sphere near the polyhedron
and additionally place also one point object in the scene.

After that align all three objects, so that they are centered
and copy/paste the edges from the polyhedron. Then do a point
extrusion (no caps) with the obtained lines and the centered point.

Use the generated surfaces to trim the solid sphere.

Now you have a Goldberg pattern on your sphere, which you
can then colorize with MoI.

That's all. :-)

P.S. since i'm no Math geek like you and others i have to
check out why i have problems with creating a Class II
polyhedron.

Hi all,

O.k.now i figured the Class II out, by omitting the canonical parameter in geodesic.

Here a Goldberg sphere 6,6 without a seam. :-)

Hi all,

and a rendering of a re-modeled version, so that i have the black lines as a mesh too.
